BOSTON — The next time the Bruins host New Jersey on March 22, bet on Boston to win and the score to be 4-1, especially if the home team is trying to emerge from a tailspin.
For the second time in three years, the Bruins took care of business by downing the Devils, 4-1, on March 22 tonight at TD Garden. As I wrote this morning, the Bruins were in similar circumstances in 2009, and prevailed after a couple days of practice.
Tim Thomas, who is obviously at his best when he takes a week off and then gets pulled and re-inserted into his first game back, was in top form with 31 saves. He stopped 15 of 16 first-period shots, as the Bruins were outshot 16-6 in the opening session.
Combined with Montreal’s home loss to Buffalo tonight, the Bruins’ victory puts them three points up with two games in hand for the Northeast Division lead with the head-to-head showdown coming Thursday.
Here’s a glance at the rest of the box score:
•Shawn Thornton snapped a 19-game goal drought with a tip-in that tied the game. And Zdeno Chara scored the Bruins’ first 5-on-4 power-play goal since Feb. 18 to put the team in the lead.
•Milan Lucic’s goal was his 30th of the season, which makes him the first Bruins to reach 30 goals since Phil Kessel scored 36 in 2008-09.
•Chara added two assists and a plus-2 rating to his goal. Adam McQuaid was plus-2 with three blocked shots.

Good game, good win. I hope that level of play and execution in all aspects of the game continues.
I agree with Roughneck, it looks like the B’s might have a pretty effective 3rd line coming together right now.
Thanks for the response Matt. I didn’t notice the PP column when I posted (don’t think it was up yet), sorry if I came on to strong. I just think he’s a strong player who may be a bit under-confident and therefore a lot over-looked. (no reply needed)
Roughneck, there’s been like 3 or 4 pro-Seguin stories on this blog the last couple days & he’s mentioned in my PP column that just posted. Can’t turn this into SeguinBlog.net just yet.

I also forgot to mention that he got 3/10 PP minutes. I think he’ll be a good addition to our PP; he’s quick, skillful, and young/energetic (when he plays with confidence [which is the problem...]).
I also forgot to mention that this is my first post here on TBB.net, I really enjoy the blog and the fans/readers, so everybody keep up the good work! Now we just gotta battle like this against the Habs…
Very exciting game to watch and a good recap. Unless you plan on doing more detailed analysis later, I’m a tad upset you didn’t mention Seguin (especially because he’s been quite the buzz here lately). Even though he didn’t put up numbers (except for two shots), he was playing the body, looking a lot more confident (he had a sneaky backhand pass at the point), and (imho) did a great job crashing the net looking for rebounds. I was glad to see him with Kelly and Peverley, who are all good passers and quick skaters. Seguin’s come so far in the past 4 games, I’m excited to see what happens in the rest of the season.
