Well, there are a bunch of Montreal Canadiens players that can never claim — as so many athletes do — that they don’t read the papers or listen to sports radio.
Among the veterans that took the time after the Habs’ morning skate at TD Garden today to opine on what Bruins forward Mark Recchi said last night about the Montreal organization embellishing Max Pacioretty’s injury was forward Michael Cammalleri.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate,” said the diminutive winger, who should be in the lineup tonight against the Bruins. “I don’t think those comments are appropriate by Mark. Surprised, to be honest with you. Mark’s a guy who’s been around a long time. I’m not sure he has a medical degree yet. I think it is what it is when it comes to the brain. These are very unclear injuries and very serious ones. I think it’s a little bit disrespectful with those comments, that’s for sure. A little bit surprised coming from a guy with the reputation that he has.”
The Bruins scrapped their morning skate today to shield the players from having to talk about the Habs match-up for the third straight day. The Canadiens could’ve easily done the same thing, or at least pleaded the Fifth [that’s an amendment for my Canadian readers] when the questioning turned to Recchi. They could’ve even claimed to not know what Recchi said.
Instead, the war of words continued. It seems like every time one side or the other says it’s time to stop talking and focus on the game, someone has something else to say. At this rate, they’re going to run out of material before their probable seven-game playoff meeting in a few weeks.
[…] Mike Cammalleri may or may not have commented on Recchi’s words but a Bruin blog came up with the following. […]
I forgot to say this in my comment above, but you get a feeling that Recchi and Lucic are definitely trying to get Montreal media and attention off of Chara by saying something they know Montreal media will get upset with and come at them. Smart move by good teammates.
I’m starting to think the Bruns are just trying to rattle the canadien players and fans with all this talk. The more the Habs are thinking about Recchi and Lucic, the less they are thinking about their lightning fast forecheck and even faster transition game.
RD,
Again, we are not commenting on the player but on the organization, of whom we are generally suspicious. This is in no way an indictment on Max as a person or player. We are not questioning that he had a concussion or that he was in any way faking the severity of the injury, I can think of no person in hockey (aside from Avery) who would even think of it while their neck was broken.
I personally feel as though the concussion was given a misdiagnosis on the spot, probably because his neck was broken. Broken necks are a great source of paraplegics: something the world needs no more of. I’m really glad he’s eying a return to the playoffs, and wish him all the best.
Also on the severity of his concussion, having watched at least 7 concussions happen to the briuns team in the past few years (bergeron 2x, Savard 2x, Alberts, Krecji, Kampfer off the top of my head) I can tell you that he will be out far less time than most of these players due to concussion issues. Seeing a movie a few days after being concussed is an awful quick recovery time for someone with a “severe” concussion. Begeron took MONTHS to take a walk. And that was graded as moderate if I recall.
All Recchi did was say facts, Max went to the movies and was tweeting. Someone with a “severe” concussion wouldn’t be doing those things. So it wasn’t a severe concussion. Yeah it was still a concussion just not as bad as they led on.
Maybe we’ll see Cammalleri give Recchi a Havlat-elbow-punch to the head or a Niederreiter-slash to the head.
We’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Max isn’t playing, his neck needs to heal and we don’t know how he’ll react to his next headshot.
Lets not all praise god or cry foul because he’s feeling better because he’s not out of the water yet.
Its all good just to let u know its becuz some of u think Max is going to play this week-end,and that he went to a movie 2 day later when its 7.Max is going to tried training whitout hit soon and if it goes well he MAY be back for a round 1 or 2 in playoff…
AK need little motivation but its one of the best player on the ice tonight i hope he do the difference
•A mild concussion may involve no loss of consciousness (feeling “dazed”) or a very brief loss of consciousness (being “knocked out”).
•A severe concussion may involve prolonged loss of consciousness with a delayed return to normal.
From what i know he was counsciousness longer then savard bergeron crosby booth perron and all
Really, Talking to someone using a player’s name especially one of the Kostisyn Bros. (I recall one of them threatened to go to the KHL after being demoted to the AHL, what a dick!) feels literally like I’m listening to a clown while trying to have a serious conversation.
I mean, I think no team deserves him more, and I was sad when the other idiot brother was traded out of Montreal, and I’ll stop what could be a pages-long rant there. Why would anyone WANT to be a Kostisyn?!?
One of the Habs fans on here saying we should “write about what we don’t know”? Last time I checked, free speech was an inalienable right in both the US and Canada. We can say what we want, especially on a fan blog for our hometown team. Go enjoy your biased opinions somewhere else.
a towel?
OK, I’m done. Anyone that signs in with a Canadiens player’s name is deleted. This is silly.
MK
@Kostitsyn… uh, what?
I hope BoiseBruin is right. If Rex’s comments get in Cammalleri’s head, hopefully some of the lesser Habs won’t be very composed tonight.
I think this could be the type of game where once the first few minutes are out of the way, some of the younger, faster Bruins (Marchand, Seguin) could shine. It would be nice to see Marchand have a big game after sitting and the comments he made before the game on March 8th.
David-
You mean that’s not really Moen & Kostitsyn commenting on my blog? What a bummer.
Seriously, why can’t they use their real names? What are they hiding?
MK
I don’t think anyone from Boston is claiming the injury is faked, but given the level of insanity, citing specifically the police investigation into the hit and the owner’s undeniably passive-aggressive letter about the hit, we are calling into question the integrity of the Canadien’s owner/organization. For example, many of us here love the Bruins and have less than fond feelings for the owner. As such, sometimes stupid things happen to good people as a result and that may be what is going on here. I think the dictionary definition does not make a whole lot of sense in this context, especially when you consider even Krecji’s mild concussion had him in bed for a week. Someone else pointed out there is more than one reason you would lie on the ice, and a broken neck is a damn good reason.
Also, Boston and Pittsburgh are famous for their doctors/specialists, so please try and separate familiarity from ability.
And please Montreal fans, don’t borrow the name of a player for a post, it’s hard to take you seriously when you do so.
Moen- think about what you’re saying.
You’re preaching about how Max is incredibly lucky to be alive, and it’s a miracle that his hockey career is not over. If his life did indeed flash before his eyes, and his injuries were severe enough to warrant “miracle recovery” status, why is he thinking about the playoffs or even practicing at all?! You don’t go through a “severe” ordeal like that and then carry on life like normal the week later.
I’m not making any judgements on whether the Canadiens organization was upping the severity of the injuries to get Chara punished. All I’m saying is that calling Max’s injuries “severe” cheapens the ordeals of many other players, Savard included. Just to use him as an example, Savard was still feeling the effects of the Cooke hit a year after it happened. I read a story in the Boston Globe a few months ago documenting how day-to-day functions were difficult for him, because the concussion had injured him that badly.
Obviously, Max was injured and he is lucky to not have long-term effects from the hit. But please stop calling it a “miracle,” because clearly, there have been players who have been affected much worse and have come back from those injuries. To me, those are the real miracles.
True, but in montreal everyoen said its a miracle, hes lucky but plz stop posting or talking about thing u dont know!
Max is going to start some training whitout hit and if its going good and he is lucky he may come back for a round 1-2 playoff at this point he is lucky to move again is member and that is carerr is not over.
But plz stop talking bout him he was at a inch to end is carerr and everything hes been lucky, and the concossuion didnt look that bad
Dr.Mulder is the best of all the league whit the more experience and when u see a guy 5-6min on the ice whitout sign of life u should know said is faking or jump to the..
Bottom line is that the Habs have a history of shady business when it comes to these types of situations which has to be a factor when looking at this situation. It’s true I wear black and gold tinged glasses; however, it seems even a neutral observer would think it a bit odd for Pacioretty to be back at all this season given the reported injuries of a severe concussion and fractured vertebrae.
Fuel for the fire. The more time the Habs spend concentrating on what’s said in the media, the less they spend focusing on their opponent tonight.
Would see in playof 😉
Mike finish 1st in term of goal in playoff luckily u didnt had to play vs us becuz u cannot compare u to PIT and WAS last year
Stop talking about Max he did see a movie 6Days later and going to practice lonely whitout hit soon to look how it feel after!
That same guy receive a 100mph puck to the chest ,been to hospital directly and played 1-2 day later hes lucky and at his age he can recover 10x time easier then Savard or old /worst shape player
Read people: The severity of a concussion is based on the time spent unconcious, not on the severity of the SYMPTOMS.
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/concussion/article_em.htm
The guy’s neck was broken. Any more severe and he could have been paralysed or dead. Recchi should shup up and play hockey (for what little time he has left) , instaed of playing doctor.

Recchi’s comments are ridiculous. The guy’s neck was broken. Any more severe and he would have been been paralysed or dead. Recchi should stick to playing hockey (for the little time he has left) instead of playing doctor.
recchin ball >>> cammaferri
Props for the Trailer Park Boys reference, nifty.
Even Ricky and Julien know what the fifth means. Ricky would say “best case ontario would be to plead the fifth amusement”
Me thinks Cammaleri has spent to much time in the land of poutine, broken down roads and kamikaze cab drivers. Recchi had teammates with severe concussions and they weren’t going to see Avatar four days after getting hit.
Looch said it best that you didn’t see Sidney Crosby going to the movie four days later and that was diagnosed as a mild concussion at the time
I realize that people have different recovery times, but I’ve had teammates with minor concussions, and their experiences have been much closer to Pacioretty’s. Feel terrible for a few days, but then they get on with their lives. I remember how Bergeron couldn’t be in a well lit room for months, and could barely walk across the room.
What Rex said is completely legit. If I were him I probably wouldn’t have said it, to avoid firing up the Habs anymore than they already are. But come on, we all know what a severe concussion is. Not out for a couple of weeks, more like a year. Not at the movies 2 days later. Not back for the playoffs. Maybe the should have called it a slight concussion instead?
