Many, including this writer, doubt that defenseman David Warsofsky has a future in the NHL because of his lack of size.
Well we’ll all get a chance to find out how he adapts to the pro game a little early because Warsofsky today reportedly signed with the Bruins.
Scott Weighart of USCHO.com reported the signing, which was confirmed by the Bruins this afternoon, today. As a Terriers junior this season, Warsofsky posted 7-15-22 totals in 34 games. He’s listed at a generously at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds and might’ve just had a down year because of a lack of interest in the level of competition he faced. The Bruins acquired his rights from St. Louis last year on draft day for Vladimir Sobotka.
BU head coach Jack Parker wasn’t surprised by Warsofsky’s early defection. He told Weighart:
“He needs to be challenged in a different way. He didn’t perform as well as he could’ve this year, and I think it was because he wasn’t challenged. He needs to be on eggshells, worrying about how good he is compared to everybody else, and I think this year he thought it was going to be too easy for him.”
While the NHL might still be at least a year away for Warsofsky, he figures to compete for a top-four spot with the Providence (AHL) farm club next season.

As a grad student at BU, I’ve had the chance to watch him, and he plays closer to kaberle’s style of play than any other Bruins blue liner. Solid defensively, and not because of his checking game. he looks to have some hockey smarts about him that may just put him in the big leagues if he works for it. I agree though, that it was a stupid move for him to quit. He was a year away from a backup plan coming to fruition (you know, a degree). Assuming the freshman here learned their lesson, then BU should be much better next season.
I honestly think that if he works hard that in a few years he will have a shot at the NHL. With Chara as a partner the Keebler elf could play given the amount of offensive talent Warsofsky has.
Not a smart move, he should have learned from his former teammate, Cohen. Go ask him right now if he would leave early again. I know his answer, it is stay in school. Warofsky will be hard pressed to earn a spot on the P-Bruins, most likely a career ECHL’er.
Fair enough. He just has a history of putting his players under the bus, especially after big losses. At least that is my view on it. One would think he would be very complementary of Warsofsky
@MCK: read the full article…overall Parker is very complementary.

Leave it to Parker to give the kid a shot on his way out. Creep. Glad the kid is a Bruin now and no longer a Terrier
