There are just nine games left in the regular season.
The Bruins sit in first place in the Northeast Division and third in the Eastern Conference. They just destroyed Montreal, 7-0. So on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the strongest, I ask you my readers of TheBruinsBlog.net:
What is your confidence the Bruins could win the Stanley Cup?

I voted 4. This is a slightly better team than the one that made the playoff run last year before Krejci went down. I like their chances of getting to the finals, after that anything can happen. Lookout for the Penguins though.
The Bruins defense/goaltending gives them a chance to win every game, and that will get even greater during the playoffs, where that is what gets you a cup. Think where this team could go with the Krejci line playing the way it is, and the Bergeron line if it plays like it did in Jan/Feb. I voted 4
2, I don’t think this is a cup team. Too inconsistent to beat an elite team in a 7-game series
Here is the way I look at these options…
1 – Quarter Final Loss
2 – Semi Final Loss
3 – Conference Final Loss
4 – Stanley Cup Final Loss
5 – Stanley Cup Final Win
Having said that, I voted 4. I have full confidence that we, unless something incredible goes wrong (knock on wood), can take the East this year. You just can’t tell with the Stanley Cup Finals until you see who is actually in the roster and who is actually playing well at the time. Plus, I feel that Vancouver and Detroit are ready to go deep, and although I love both of these teams, I hope, for our sake, that they do not make the Stanley Cup Finals.
David,
You could be right about Crosby, something about him in the lineup makes me think twice about the Penguins because they have proven they can win without him during the season. Although Savard was well below 100% he managed to score that OT winner in his first game back.
Seeing the Bruins beat the Canucks on the road does give me hope, but the losses to San Jose and especially Detroit make me nervous about winning a series. A lot of those top teams in the West are playing their best hockey right now.
I voted 3. I think inconsistency is their achilles heel. If the Bruins bring the game they brought against the Habs every game then I think they can beat pretty much anyone in the Eastern conference-not sure about whoever comes out of the west.
After the see-saw ride we’ve been on – I still don’t know what the hell we have. Consistency in their big games going in would make me feel a little better (1-4 Montreal, 1-4 Toronto and then 7-0 Montreal)… If you like Sybil? – Bs are the team for you.
3.
Sybil and I voted 4.
I’d say those matchups would be a 55/45 to 60/40 match up for the western conference team with the exception of SJ. All we have to do is frustrate Thorton by checking him, and he’ll take care of the rest. That’s how the hawks offed him. Also, I disagree with you on Crosby. No doubt that he will try his utmost to be back, but if it is in the same way as Savard, he will be useless. Not only that, but he doesn’t have time to get himself conditioned properly and will definitely feel it in the playoffs. He will increase Pittsburgh’s chances of winning any matchup if healthy (if not in condition) but not to the extent I feel most people will expect.
I voted 2 for one reason only….in the limited games I have seen the ‘elite’ Western teams play, I do not think the Bruins would beat Detroit, Vancouver, San Jose, or the Blackhawks in 7 games. I would have voted a 4 if the poll was about the Bruins making it to the cup, I feel the East is wide open if Crosby doesn’t play.
I went with a 4. They’re coming out of the wilderness as it were at just the right time to be ready for the playoffs. They should be hungry after two years of second round ousters (Ryder not included), and they have proven that they can take down all the top teams in the league when they are on their game (except Detroit). Timmy is the kind of player who will make sure they have a chance to win every night, and the competition is finally kicking in. They may not have the best chance, but it is still above average, which is why I give it a 4.
Playoffs are a different animal. That being said, I like their chances somewhat, so I posted a 3… if this team clicks, the role players embrace their roles, and they execute like they did last night, then I dont think MTL or NYR would upset them in the first round. MTL in 6 and NYR in 5. Second round becomes more iffy if they have to face the Pens, so I’m a Bolts fan until the last week in April. From then on out, its like Haggs said the other day: every team has its weakness, and the conference really is wide open.
