Bruins’ Marchand earns ‘little bit of an earful’ for golf-swing gesture
BOSTON — Although they’re mathematically still alive for a playoff berth, the Toronto Maple Leafs are probably not going to qualify for the postseason.
Toward the end of the second period druing the Bruins’ 4-3 shootout loss to the Leafs, Boston forward Brad Marchand offered the Leafs bench a suggestion on what to do once the regular season ends.
After a scrum, Marchand made a golf-swing gesture that probably got under the skin of some of the blue-and-white-wearing players. It also irked the Bruins’ bench boss.
“I got a little bit of an earful [from Claude Julien between periods],” admitted Marchand after the game, “it won’t happen again.”
Marchand said that Phil Kessel popped him in the mouth and there should’ve been a penalty. Instead there was a razzing from the bench and then the gesture.
“That was a little immature of me. I shouldn’t have done that,” said the pesky winger.
Earlier in the game, Marchand gave the Bruins one of their few bursts of energy on the night with a shorthanded goal. Julien knows he has to take the good and the bad with Marchand and hope that the good outweighs all else by the end of the game.
“He’s been a good player for us,” said Julien. “And again, his emotions can sometimes be a positive, and sometimes you don’t want to cross the line. You certainly don’t like that when it happens, so it’s just a learning process.”
Earlier this month Marchand received a two-game suspension for a hit to the head and a period-long benching from his coach for some undisciplined play. Now comes this. Marchand’s going to have to mature a little more before the postseason starts because these little maneuvers could be magnified and cost Boston in the playoffs.

This is why Claude Julien is a great coach for us and should never be fired. A player like Marchand could easily turn into an Avery or Ott if the wrong coach gives him the wrong ideas of what is right and what is wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, Marchand is awesome and I love his energy, just like I love Rask getting overly angry. But these emotions need to be controlled, and some coaches don’t do that. They let the players go and it makes them think that it is okay to do certain things.
This ruins the career and reputation of a lot of players, and I do not want Marchand to get as many wrong ideas as he has had this year. Like Julien said, “his emotions can be a positive.” However, without a leash, any dog can go wild.
In Julien we trust.
Funny but he shouldn’t be doing it. Especially since he’s a rookie.
Sabres Andrew Peters did the same thing to Toronto a few years back and he got heat from it too.
Let’s call him Happy Marchand:

I agree. It’s a total d#^k move but I also howled when Peters did it to Belak. Every spring it’s the same. Someone tell the buds that it’s the best record since October that they count.
Hilarious.
Ha! D*^k move, but pretty funny.
I really like Marchand-I like his fire and his tendency to play on that edge. He is going to require a short leash, but I enjoy watching him play. He is one of the few players I think you could put on any line and see him do well.
He is one player I hope they get resigned and keep in the system.

@GR90. It’s funny that the two guys you’ve mentioned both played for the Knights. My son played in the same system as Kadri so I’ve seen him since he was around eight. Both he and Schremp put some years on Dale and Mark Hunter. They could do two things. Lift you out of your seat or make you so mad you could stomp bunnies.

i’d rather see brad’s golf swing than bergy’s giveaway.
P.S- Nazim Kadri is a joke. Kid is like Rob Schrempf in his early days only 10 times worse when it comes to being a one-trick pony… can’t do anything of value in the actual game, but is a master with that stupid effing gimmick.
Hahahaha gotta love Marchy. There were two Leafs fans behind me tonight, and I got up at one point and started practicing my swing while chanting “Golf, Leafs, Golf!”
Brian Burke isn’t messing around though… once they get some real veteran leadership on that team besides (Celine) Dion Phaneuf and Mike “I hide behind Jay Rosehill” Komisarek, they’re going to be playoff contenders.
