Poll result: Bruins fans proclaim ‘Bring on the Lightning’
Obviously, the likes of Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, Dwayne Roloson and the 1-3-1 forecheck of Guy Boucher don’t scare readers of TheBruinsBlog.net.
When asked to pick among Boston’s most likely first-round playoff opponents, most wanted the Bruins to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Who would you prefer the Bruins play in the first round?
- Tampa Bay (39%, 106 Votes)
- Montreal (34%, 92 Votes)
- Buffalo (16%, 44 Votes)
- NY Rangers (11%, 32 Votes)
Total Voters: 274
The Bruins beat the Lightning three out of four times this season, including an 8-1 rout Dec. 2 at TD Garden.

I don’t see Tampa falling out of 5th or Pitt losing 4th so I think out of all the possible first round match ups that one is the most carved in stone one of them all. I think everyone else is fighting for 6 through 8 and the Bruins might possibly catch and pass the Caps, but I am not convinced that will happen.
I think Tampa is the most beatable team in the top 8 by almost anyone playing them-so unless they pull out some kind of miracle i suspect Tampa will be gone in the first round.
Out of the teams left I still lean towards Montreal being the most beatable-mostly because I think they have worn out Price and I am not sure he is going to come through in the play offs in the same way Halak did last year.
They’re more likely than not going to be facing Pitt… Crosby will likely be back too. Imagine a Kovalev-Crosby-Neal line… that’s going to be pretty ridiculous.
Sorry Karl,
TB doesn’t make the second round, they’re like a free pass. They face either us or pitt, and I can’t possibly see pitt screwing that one up.
drawing guy boucher’s all star diving team in the 1st round is wishful thinking.
we can hope for a 2nd round matchup, though (caps & penguins lose and one of the lower seeds wins).
TB for two reasons: (1) No heart. That was clear in their last couple of matchups. (2) They’re in a skid. Lets beat up on them while they’re down and tune up our game for a second round matchup.
