Poll result: Marchand’s production earns him more accolades
Brad Marchand is definitely too rugged a character to be classified as a “Cinderella.”
But there’s no doubt he’s enjoying a magical rookie season.
Over the weekend, the Bruins winger was rewarded for his efforts with the coveted Seventh Player Award for performing above and beyond expectations. For his production last week in Boston’s four games, he was voted the Bruin of the Week:
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Brad Marchand (39%, 37 Votes)
- Tim Thomas (35%, 33 Votes)
- Nathan Horton (16%, 15 Votes)
- Zdeno Chara (10%, 10 Votes)
Total Voters: 95
In the Bruins’ drive to wrap up both a playoff berth and the Northeast Division title last week, Marchand was instrumental. He recorded at least one point in all four games and finished the week with 2-3-5 totals and a plus-2 rating. His game-winning goal in Philadelphia punched Boston’s ticket back to the postseason.
Marchand’s 21 goals have him in fourth place on the Bruins’ scoring chart for the season. He’s come a long way since he was a fourth-line hopeful, which was his role when he arrived at training camp last fall. Since then he has transformed into something of a second-line sniper. But he hasn’t had the help of a fairy godmother or any other outside source. He’s done it through hard work and confidence.
There might not be a fairy-tale equivalent for what Marchand has done this season, but it’s still a great story.

This guy is not only an embaressement to the Bruins but to the entire NHL.
Not a fan of Marchand, hogs the puck, mouths off too much and disrespects like Subban. But he is a Bruin and I hope he settles down.
doesn’t the 7th player award entitle brad to a better number? 10, 13, 14, 16? i say either 13 or 16.
It’s nice to have a villain on the team other than Chara. Someone who actually works at getting people to hate him, not just for being big. So long as Marchand doesn’t cross the line and become an Ott or Cooke, it will be great to have him on the team.
