BOSTON — It’s something everyone tries to do, and Mark Recchi and Zdeno Chara get to do it.
Bruins head coach Claude Julien said after today’s 3-1 win over Ottawa at TD Garden that he’s letting Recchi and Chara stay home from the club’s trip to New Jersey for the regular-season finale. Any chance to stay out of New Jersey is an opportunity you have to take.
The Bruins can still finish second in the Eastern Conference with a win over the Devils and a little help. But they’ll try to do it without two of their most important veterans.
Chara and Recchi have both played in 81 games, so this means no Boston player will skate in 82 contests this season. Today Recchi took over sole possession of fourth on the all-time games played list with 1,652.
Shane Hnidy and Tyler Seguin should get another chance to tune up for the playoffs in Recchi and Chara’s place.

rex played today?
I knew Recchi would likely stay home for this game. Not shocked Chara got the rest either.
I am kind of surprised that he didn’t rest Kejci at some point, but figure Chara and definitely Recchi earned the rest and in Recchi’s case I think he needed it.
Seems like Krejci should also be one getting the rest. Every time he gets knocked down, it takes eons for him to get back up. Bet we hear after the playoffs he’s been dealing with something.
