‘Causeway Krejci’ makes ‘Broadway Joe’-type guarantee for Game 2

WILMINGTON, Mass. — If David Krejci’s words just magically turn to results, the Bruins will head to Montreal tied in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series after tomorrow’s Game 2 against the Canadiens.
The veteran center was so confident after practice today, he all but guaranteed a victory.
“Obviously, we want to win. We have to win. And we will win,” he said after a 30-minute practice in preparation for Game 2 tomorrow at TD Garden.
“We don’t want to go Montreal with a 2-0 [deficit],” he continued. “That would be tough. But I’m very confident in our team.”
Now the Bruins’ Ristuccia Arena practice facility isn’t exactly Miami, where Joe Namath once guaranteed victory before Super Bowl III. And Krejci’s Czech accent and hushed voice aren’t quite up to Namath’s southern drawl and bravado. But Krejci’s at least showing he’s growing into the type of leader the Bruins projected he’d be now in his third full NHL season.
He wants to win Game 2 and won’t accept anything less.
“[The mood’s] good. It’s a long series,” said Krejci. “We lost one game, it happens. We lost the first game against Buffalo last year too and then we came back. It’s just one game. If we win tomorrow, it’s a tied series. We talked about it’s going to be a long series. It’s going to go maybe seven games. So we’re ready for it and we have to turn the page on what happened yesterday and start a new chapter tomorrow.”

Joe Namath and his “southern drawl”? Joe Namath grew up in Beaver Falls, Pa.. Sure he played 4 years at Bama, but Namath is a Northern boy. Maybe Krejci is from Southern Czech Republic?

As a fellow fan the top line is confused and I put it on Milan. He had cement shoes on last nigth which is not uncommon for him. People who compare him to Neely should turn to hoops. Bring it every shift make a difference and see what shakes out at the end of a career. I feel like Milan plays like as spoiled child who would not know what a tough situation was if it presented itself. He gets way to much plaise for a guy who picks and chooses his effort. P.S. drop the helmut in pre game as you have always done theree lies the luck you need

Am I the only one going to complain about the officiating? The hooking call on Kaberle and the dive that Suban took were probably the two worst calls I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been watching hockey since the 60′s. Good thing never penalty hurt us, but I always have the feeling the ref’s have a bias towards Montreal. Felt no different last night. BTW, fans at TD shouldn’t boo when Suban has the puck……they should all shout in unison “DIVERRRRRR….DIVERRRRR!!!!”

krejci is streaky, but when he is going he does make things happen especially with Locic and Horton. If I am the opponent I play my best D against them then I try to stop Bergy and I will keep the B’s off the scoresheet.
krejci gets moved this summer to make room for richards (real 1st line center). unfortunately this team has 4, 3rd line centers.
The only positive I take from this is the fact it came from Krejci. Honestly, I was under the assumption the the guy was hurt. He’s always slow to get up off the ice, and doesn’t have nearly the grit and swagger he had at the time around the VAN Olympics. I expected to hear he’d been dealing with “X” injury once the season is over.
So maybe this means he isn’t hurt…and there’s a chance he’ll get back to the things he’s best at. Reading a lot into it, I know, but does a guy say something like this if he’s hurt and can’t back it up even if he wanted to?
Krejci is soft. Guy loses 50/50 battles every single time. I wish he was out instead of Savard. That being said, the Bruins will be fine… the better team wins almost always in the NHL playoffs.
Aaron, you’re absolutely right. I’ve been saying this for the past 3 seasons: as goes Krejci, so go the Bruins. Krejci and Wheeler were #s 1 & 2 in the NHL in +/- in 08/09 and the Bruins rolled to the best record in the East. Krejci had a BRUTAL start in the ’09 season and didn’t find his game until late in the year (awful season for the Bruins, but fought to make the playoffs) and got red hot to lead the B’s through Buffalo and the first half of the Philly series. Then Krejci goes down and the Bruins crash and burn.
Same this this season: the Bruins hottest streaks occured when Krejci’s line was producing. Early he and Horton were playing well and the B’s looked great in the first few weeks. Again he got hot on the roadtrip through Edmonton, Vancouver, etc and the Bruins haven’t looked that good in YEARS. The past few weeks his scoring and assist #s are down, and the B’s have flatlined.
Last night he was invisible and the B’s scoring followed suit.
Sure they had a ton of SoG, but Krejci needs to get his wingers the puck with space to turn SoG into scoring chances.
As goes Krejci, so go the Bruins.
Maybe he should show up for this one. That would certainly help his prediction.
positivity does not a guarantee make. that said, I’m really commenting to point out that aside from shooting at Price’s chest as if they thought it was full of candy (it may be), the only major issue I had with game one of the Bruins-Canadiens 2011 playoff matchup was one I’ve been harping on since they initiated it. the Bruins have three blueline monsters in Chara, Boychuk and McQuaid and they have other defensemen that play a different game in Seidenberg, Kaberle, Ference and Kampfer (they also have Hnidy and Bartkowski, but they’re just placeholders). they should be keeping the non-monsters on separate lines when the hitters are healthy and/or playing. instead of CHA/BOY, SEI/KAB, FER/MCQ they should be rolling CHA/SEI, FER/BOY, KAB/MCQ. the first time I saw Kaberle and Seidenberg together, I couldn’t help but yell at the screen in frustration and this was exactly my fear. for weeks I’ve been bitching about that pairing to my girlfriend and it scares me that I then think about how she is not Julien (phew). doughboy can pack up his Ryder, Kaberle and Seidenberg and bounce. I like his defense, but how could he not see what a disaster that pairing tends to be? it is clear as day, now (I thought it was pretty clear all along, but maybe it wasn’t) — Seidenberg and Kaberle must not share shifts and there really probably won’t be room for both on next year’s Bruins. decent game. bring on, bring on.
