Habs’ Cammalleri on Chara situation: ‘not going to be like Recchi and diagnose the other team’

BOSTON — Just the like the Bruins’ dressing room, the Montreal room at TD Garden was buzzing with talk of Zdeno Chara’s dehydration.

That didn’t stop Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri from getting in another dig against the Bruins and veteran forward Mark Recchi.

Cammalleri was asked if he has had experience with dehydration.

“I try to stay hydrated and use different things that kind of give you the minerals and vitamins you need. I’ve never been in that situation myself, but a few guys do it. It doesn’t look too pleasant.

“I’m no MD, so I’m not going to be like Mark Recchi and diagnose the other team.”

Cammalleri was obviously still referring back to Recchi’s comments a month ago that the Canadiens might’ve embellished Max Pacioretty’s medical report in the aftermath of Chara’s hit on the Habs winger into the stanchion at the Bell Centre. Pacioretty suffered a fractured vertebrae and severe concussion March 8. He has since resumed skating.

Chara was hospitalized last night and treated for dehydration. He’s expected to play tonight in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series between the Bruins and Habs, which Montreal leads 1-0.

Other Habs players were more diplomatic about the situation. Rookie defenseman P.K. Subban couldn’t even see why something that happened last night would affect either side tonight.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt he’s going to be in the lineup,” said Subban. “He’s one of the best leaders in the league and this is the most important time for his team. So as far as we know, we expect him to play.”

Hal Gill said he hadn’t even heard the news. And forward Travis Moen didn’t think that even the presence of a slightly sick Chara on the other side would change Montreal’s approach.

“He’s a good defenseman,” said Moen, “so I don’t know if it’s going to affect him too much. We’re just going to play our same game plan, try to get pucks behind him and use our speed.”
