Bruins’ Chara scratched for Game 2 with Habs
BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara was the second player to take the ice behind starting goaltender Tim Thomas for tonight’s Game 2 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with Montreal.
But he will not play tonight.
Chara, who was hospitalized yesterday for dehydration, is listed on the official game sheet as a scratch. Shane Hnidy is in the lineup in his place.
Here are the Bruins’ lines and D pairs as per the warm-up:
Lucic-Krejci-Horton
Marchand-Bergeron-Recchi
Kelly-Peverley-Ryder
Paille-Campbell-Thornton
Chara-Boychuk
Kaberle-Seidenberg
Ference-McQuaid
Montreal’s Andrei Kostitsyn, who missed the morning skate today, took the warm-up but is scratched. Jeff Halpern filled Kostistyn’s slot in the morning skate but did not go on the ice for warm-ups. Yannick Weber was added to the Montreal lineup.

Correct Nifty. Horton also grew up in Welland (my home town! but he is now french.
i hope Seguin plays tomorrow.. we really need a change and this kid needs a chance to play in the playoffs. It was disappointing to not see Chara out there but there are at least 2 more games to go.. lets make them count.
Paille grew up in Welland but he is french and went to french language school there.
I wasn’t sure about Paille. I thought he might be English with a French name like Marchand…
Thanks guys. I know you guys can’t be happy about the loss but racist comments aren’t necessary.
Yes agreed kudos RD! Although you did forget Paille.
Kelly just kept giving the puck up over and over and over. I now your stance on this Matt but it’s time for Seguin to come in. The hitting isn’t working we need to add something new. According to the statsPaille, Horton, Kelly and Campbell had zero shots, Ryder had 1. Ryder only threw one hit so… that’s no excuse not to use Seguin. It’s time for a change and I do believe it’s Kelly’s turn to sit.
RD you’re being polite. Even an Anglo from Ontario would call it racist. Thanks for taking the high road.
You do realize a frog is a French Canadian (and a pretty rude term too)…
What do you think Bergeron or Julien is???
Chara wouldn’t have mattered in tonights loss. The B’s forgot how to pass the puck. They have forgotten how to get out of their own end. Tonight was more pathetic than game 1. The only hope is Chara comes back to break some more ankles with his SS. If he can take out enough frogs with the slapper, we may have a chance in this series.
Give Marchand and Bergy someone their line, they are pretty effective even with Rex lumbering around out there.
2 bangers with Krejci is just an awful mix, I like adding Pevs for Horton there.
Lucic-Krejci-Peverley
Marchand-Bergeron-Horton
Kelly-Ryder-Recchi
Paille-Campbell-Thornton
It made no difference tonight. This team is headed to the golf course very soon they are so confused and lost it is a painful three hours of tv. Charra and Thomas should give back what ever awards they win cause they are no shows to put it nice. Marchand can play for me any day he keeps his awards he’s got heart and gives it everything. This is pathetic Claude keep working on that defensive style you preach it’s a real home run.
He probably has some sort of bug. Hard to believe it was only dehydration. When they showed clips of him skating around, he did not look like someone who would be physically able to play.
Surprised to not see Chara in the lineup.
A couple days ago someone was writing about how Boston fans rally behind gritty players who show heart like O’Reily, Milbury etc etc
I wonder how this will go over with that crowd…
my 2 cents…the big man must be extremely sick to miss the game.
He’s tough and a great great D-man, no doubt about it. I’m just questioning him being the captain, that’s it. There just seems to be something missing there…
Dan, please. Are you really questioning Z’s toughness or desire to compete? He’s obviously sick. I love how every couch critic becomes a world class athlete and tough guy when a player can’t go.
Well there goes the series…
Chara is out. Wow – I can’t ever remember a captain coming out for the pre-game skate with his team but not actually play. I’ve never been sold on Chara as a captain. Great player, yes, but captain? I don’t think so. This is real disappointing.
Is bergeron going to see more ice time then Chris Kelley tonight???
