Star of the Night: Bergeron comes up big to get Bruins back in series
The Bruins might’ve forgotten what scoring first felt like, forgotten the taste of playing with the lead, considering they hadn’t scored first or led through two games of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with Montreal.
Patrice Bergeron practically willed them to both things last night and then helped Boston hang on for a 4-2 Game 3 win that pulled them back into the series down 2-1 to the Canadiens.
For his efforts with two assists and a plus-3 rating, Bergeron is TheBruinsBlog.net’s Star of the Night.
Honorable mention: Brian Boucher (35-for-37 saves) of Philadelphia; Martin St. Louis (2 goals) Tampa Bay; Tyler Kennedy (GWG 2:43 into 3rd) of Pittsburgh; Ruslan Salei (G 1:57 into the game) and Jimmy Howard (28-for-30 saves) of Detroit.
Last night’s scores
Boston 4, Montreal 2
Philadelphia 4, Buffalo 2
Pittsburgh 3, Tampa Bay 2
Detroit 4, Phoenix 2
Tonight’s games
Vancouver at Chicago, 8
San Jose at Los Angeles, 10:30

Krejci and Bergeron are top centers in the league and they stay here.
Luke – I’m with you. Not much on the shelves for UFAs… a couple RFA may entice though. That’s why I was suggesting the trade avenue b/c I don’t know how else to make significant upgrades.
But – I like you’re thinking – they might be wise to go you’re route.
Don’t forget Sauve – I’m still holding out hope that we’ll have our own burner ala (Grabner, Butler, etc..)
@George, The only top flight weapon available this off-season looks to be Brad Richards (Another #91 who already has concussion issues). The best course of action for the Bruins this off-season may be to put a major emphasis on developing the in system talent.
If Kampfer continues to develop he could crack the 6 D men and could facilitate a lot of offense just by making good passes for entry. Seguin will hopefully have a great summer and crack top 6 (as a winger) and maybe Spooner, Knight, or Caron can make the leap and add some creativity to the offense.
PC may have to think about changing his strategy of spending to the cap at the start of the season. Some flexibility late in the season has been a successful tactic for other teams.
BoJangles….no need to make those trades if Savard retires….Ryder/Savard/Recchi UFA salaries enough to pay almost any free agent
If I’m a GM, and the Bs don’t win the cup… I’m dangling both Krecji and Horton to see what’s out there. This team needs a top line forward that is dangerous with a capital D.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Looch a lot, but I think he’s pretty well peaked, and the Bs don’t have too much to work with to really upgrade the team. I’m not talking about adding another Peverley, I’m talking top flight 1st line weapons.
We have to get rid of Ryder so he stops spreading the Glyder bug to the rest of the team.
it would be tough to name many LW with the skill set and size Lucic has, my point is that he has huge potential but still has to many games where he is missing in action out there
Bergeron was solid and his line is the line that really needs to heat up and provide some scoring. Overall, the first two periods were solid and the third was certainly scary.
…I bet that 100% of the teams…I really should proof-read.
And he scored 30 goals this year. I bet there are 100% of the teams who like to have a 30 goal scorer.
Hmmm..Lucic is one of the faster skater for someone his size.
RF, Top 10 potential? I see the point you’re trying to make, but he wouldn’t be a top line winger on 50% of the teams in the league. I think with a more consistent game/effort he MIGHT inch into the top 40.
You’re talking about a guy with a nice wrister and strong body. He’s a lousy skater, can’t for the life of him skate backwards, has no moves 8-ft and in, and is poses zero threat with the puck on his backhand.
upstate new york has issued an amber alert for mark recchi and milan lucic. both disappeared over two weeks ago.
I’ve got a question? Has anyone ever seen a player get an elbowing penaltly for elbowing someone in stomach. You might see someone get one in the shoulder but that was because he was quick enough to lift it up to protect his head. So we can assume that an elbowing penalty is a form of a head shot. So the ref has to determine the force of the impact to assess a minor or major. With the rock hard elbow pads any elbow is going to hurt more than most slashs or trips or holds or whatever. Maybe I’m bitter because I lost a canine from an elbow. How do you explain Kunitz. Was he trying to elbow Gagne’s stick?
Detroit’s forty something forward is faster than ours and he’s a healthy scratch. Ours gets top six minutes. He can still be effective. Just not every game. As Rafiki said “it is time”.
Recchi is looking real old on that line
Diamond in the Rough.
Star of the Series at this point. A real leader on this team.
watching how strong bergy is on the puck, hopefully segzy develops a beast mode.
Bergeron wants it. What a damn leader this guy is… he came out last night with more energy than I think I’ve ever seen him. Hopefully some team bonding and relaxation in Lake Placid, along with a stint on the “Miracle” ice, will help push these guys through to a win on Thursday. If they win, they’ll return home to a King’s welcome at the Garden. Go B’s!!
Gotta win Thursday. Get back home ice and plant a seed of doubt. Monday means nothing unless we can tie this up.
Bergy was a beast last night, hitting everything – if Lucic could channel that type of effort every night he’d be a top 10 player in the league
