The Boston Bruins today finally officially announced what most of us learned through the grapevine last week.

Head coach of the Providence (AHL) farm club Rob Murray will not have his contract renewed after eight years in the organization.

Murray spent the last three seasons as head coach of the P-Bruins. He compiled a record of 117-103-20 and led the P-Bruins to the Eastern Conference finals in 2009. Prior to his time as head coach, Murray was Scott Gordon’s assistant on some solid teams.

Murray was integral in running the Bruins’ summer development camps for their prospects and their rookie camps. He helped develop some of the best young Bruins players, including Johnny Boychuk, Steven Kampfer and Adam McQuaid on defense.

He was offered a scouting position in the organization. As of now, Murray’s assistant coach Bruce Cassidy has been retained by the organization.
