After eight years with Bruins, Murray’s stint behind bench ends
The Boston Bruins today finally officially announced what most of us learned through the grapevine last week.
Head coach of the Providence (AHL) farm club Rob Murray will not have his contract renewed after eight years in the organization.
Murray spent the last three seasons as head coach of the P-Bruins. He compiled a record of 117-103-20 and led the P-Bruins to the Eastern Conference finals in 2009. Prior to his time as head coach, Murray was Scott Gordon’s assistant on some solid teams.
Murray was integral in running the Bruins’ summer development camps for their prospects and their rookie camps. He helped develop some of the best young Bruins players, including Johnny Boychuk, Steven Kampfer and Adam McQuaid on defense.
He was offered a scouting position in the organization. As of now, Murray’s assistant coach Bruce Cassidy has been retained by the organization.

Matt- any insight on why this change was made outside of Providence having a down year? Murray seemed like a rising star not long ago.
Is Cassidy (former Capitals coach I believe) being considered or are they looking for a young coach/former player candidate in the Dan Bylsma mode?
Thanks for your hard work, go Bruins!
can he coach the pp?
Actually, they’ve been rebranded the Sunlife Kids.
Bruce Cassidy and the Sundance Kids. Coming in Fall 2011?
