The player almost everyone has wanted out of the Bruins’ lineup for months is now the most celebrated player on their roster, at least until Saturday night.
Michael Ryder erupted for his first three points of Boston’s Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with Montreal last night. His first goal got the Bruins on the board and his second evened the series with a 5-4 overtime victory.
For his efforts Ryder is the TheBruinsBlog.net Star of the Night. Game 5 is Saturday night, when new heroes will undoubtedly emerge.
Ryder hadn’t scored a non-penalty-shot goal in more than a month. As he said:
“You always get a little frustrated when you don’t score, and you don’t get that many opportunities, but [the first goal] was definitely a confidence boost. Hopefully now our line keeps generating stuff, helping to do whatever we can to help this team.”
Honorable mention: Chris Kelly (1-2-3) of Boston; Michael Cammalleri (1-2-3) of Montreal; Duncan Keith (2-2-4), Marian Hossa (2-1-3) and Corey Crawford (36-save shutout) of Chicago; Ryan Clowe (2 goals) of San Jose.
Last night’s scores
Bruins 5, Montreal 4 (OT)
Chicago 5, Vancouver 0
San Jose 6, Los Angeles 3
Tonight’s games
Buffalo at Philadelphia, 7:30
Nashville at Anaheim, 10

great win I am not a ryder fan nor will be I am one of those lucky fans that have been tortured since 1979. That being said great job “team” which it takes and 0f course thank you Mr. Ryder for your contribution. Lets burry them early on Saturday. To the Hab fans Suban is a great hockey player he drives me nuts with his talent.
I bash Ryder all season, but I do it when he is trying to be too cute in the offensive zone with stick handling rather than just unloading that rediculous wrister he has. I give him tons of credit for his play last night. 2 things stand out to me right now….Claude deserves credit for putting Peverly at center on the 3rd line because they just look better over the last two games, and Bergeron has really impressed me the whole series.
What a great team…what a great game….bring it on boys and bring that cup home!!!
GO BRUINS GO!!!…ALL OF EM’
Where’s my man Lucic, I’d feel a whole lot better when he has a good game.
Go B’s
I have been a Ryder basher (although have understood why Ryder was playing and not Seguin) but he did have a good game last night and in more ways than those two goals. I actually noticed Ryder doing good things and commented on it.
I do think Kelly had an awesome game and I think Marchand and Bergeron are about the only two B’s who have looked like they want to play to win in all 4 games.
The Bruins need to go for the kill tomorrow night.
I still think Seguin’s speed would be a plus against this team, and honestly can see the argument for dressing him for Thornton but I don’t see it happening and if the Ryder of last night shows up the rest of the play offs I will be okay with that.
Roller coaster game last nite just when your ready to turn the channel……Marchand will score ,nice play to Bergy, not forget his first playoff and has stepped up unlike #46 Ryder on the P.P seriously….
please….ryder only plays when ryder wants too.he felt the heat and stepped up.now he’ll go back to being a ghost.
Ryder is as streaky as they come. Hopefully last night will be a preview of what’s to come from Ryder from the rest of the play-offs. He’ll be a great secondary scorer once HuLK finds its groove.
Ah.. excuse me Sean, but last night he saved the season – Twice! Without that sweet snap shot top glove side, the Bs very well could have remained in a shell. That shot was what he is payed to do. He did it in a huge moment. Oh.. and then there’s the overtime winner! Dude, just say Thanks to the guy, and give credit where its due.
Hungus, I’m with you. Ryder and Kelly saved each of Marchand, Krecji and Boychuck (the jitter triplets) for swallowing the apple and not lifting those gimmes. If Marchand and Krecji could bury 1/2 their chances this team would roll through to the finals.
I hate when people can’t spell simple words like ‘black’
Lord Tunderin RD. We just might make some room for a thoughtful Habs fan on the band wagon. I’m not saying it’s over but I bet you’d look good in Back and Gold.
Games like that make me want to pull my hair out. I just finished saying Ryder should be treated like a scorer since he can’t do anything else well and what does he do?
Still, he’s a good newfoundland kid and he had a good game.
Give up a 3-1 lead…give up a 3 on 1 in overtime? Damn…
April 24,2008 was the last time Price won a home game at the Bell Cash Box. I’d like the fans to remind him after they lose Saturday night and he’s heading off the ice. Someone asked what B’s team would show up last night. The answer. Both.
Ireally have to think that the two biggest stars were Kelly and Marchand. Both worked hard for every shift that they were on the ice and distracted the Habs. Ryder was lucky and the beneficiary of other players efforts. He is selfish, hangs onto the puck too long, and only passes as a last resort. He was (and usually is) weak on the boards, easily moved off the puck and most often, highly inaccurate in his shooting. Heck even a broken clock tells the correct time twice a day.
Good to see line 3 producing. Now I’d like to see all the lines produce. Loved seeing Ference show MTL the love.
rofl, gr90!!!
people give ryder a hard time for taking so long to get his shot off, but some of his fellow forwards should take notice. too many other guys on this team (KREJCI, REX, etc) not burying their chances.
They should start doing Seguin’s “high energy play of the game” commercials live from the pressbox… complete with him crushing a box of gummi worms and posting tweets in his native bro-speak
But wait… what about Tyler?
Finding a way to win- encouraging!
I watched last night’s game and I saw Ryder’s huge goals. I noticed his line played better and he was a part of that cycling in the offensive zone. Other then the two goals though, I didn’t notice a different player? I didn’t see more hustle or grit, but predictably everyone is excited and saying he played a great game. Did he play a far superior game last night or did he just finish better? While I haven’t been noticing him defensively in the series, I think that’s a bonus given what I expect would have been very noticeable lapses if Seguin were in like most fans want to see. I guess I am asking you to compare and contrast the first three games for Ryder vs last night. Thank You.
