The transformation has almost been as simple as a professional wrestler swapping his black tights for white ones.

Bruins forward Michael Ryder has gone from maybe the team’s most-criticized player to one that’s being lauded with love because of his improvement in play in just two games.

Ryder’s efforts in scoring three points in Game 4 against Montreal and then helping the Bruins get a three-games-to-two edge in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the Canadiens by making a glove save have earned him Bruin of the Week honors from readers of TheBruinsBlog.net.

Ryder followed up last season’s 18-goal regular season with the same total this year. But, as seems to be his nature, he has turned it up in the playoffs. In 29 playoff games with the Bruins, Ryder now has 11-10-21 totals. Head coach Claude Julien was asked today after practice at TD Garden what he credits for Ryder’s turnaround.

“I think that’s the one thing, is that a player is obviously responsible for how well he plays and how much he shows up. And I guess as a coach, your responsibility is to try and get him going, and I can tell you that we’ve tried that and tried to make sure he’s ready to go,” said Julien. “And I think he’s responded well in the playoffs right now. And we seem to be asking the question, why and how come, and right now my only answer to you is I’m glad he’s playing well right now. It’s as simple as that.”

Ryder’s turned many that wanted him out of the lineup into people that vote for him as the Bruin of the Week. It’s as simple as that.
