BOSTON — After Game 6 of the Bruins’ seven-game first-round victory over Montreal, head coach Claude Julien wondered out loud “maybe if we got a 5-on-3 our power play would score too.”
Although the Habs had just converted on two two-man advantages, there was never a guarantee that even a three- or four-man advantage would pull the Bruins’ power play out of its doldrums.
But tonight we found out that a 5-on-3 with a 4-1 lead late in the third period is when the Boston man-advantage finally becomes a goal machine.
Boston broke an 0-for-30 drought on Zdeno Chara’s one-timer with 1:22 left in the third period of their 5-1 win in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with Philadelphia at the TD Garden. The Bruins, who now lead the series 3-0, are just 1-for-32 in the postseason on the power play.
At least Chara kept things in perspective after the drought ended.
“Well it doesn’t mean that it’s all over now,” said Chara. “We know that we have things to improve on, there are areas we can probably do better at, but I thought tonight and even last game before tonight we created some good chances, really good scoring chances. We just needed that bounce. So it’s nice to score.”
The Bruins have been telling us for weeks — nearly months — that once one power-play goal hit the mesh, they’d start to come in bunches. So watch out in Friday’s Game 4. A pride of tigers just might be on the prowl on the streets of Boston.

Amen to that, Cathy.
While it was very nice to see I have to admit I wasn’t overly impressed. A PP goal during 5 on 3 in the last 2 minutes of the game where the Bruins were obviously going to win and the Flyers looked demoralized didn’t really make me feel like they had any kind of break through. When I see one in a 5 on 4 during the game when it really matters THEN I’ll believe that they’ve finally figured it out.
Can’t you see this team getting better with each game. The PP is just another piece falling into place.
GO BRUINS GO!!! ALL OF EM.
They almost went 1 for 30 (as opposed to 32) on their 2nd pp with great chances from Peverly and Bergeron. Great stops by Bobrovsky and the post respectively. This means now that their pp has now gotten a goal and cost them one as well, so they are back to even on the playoffs.
