WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Bruins went through a pretty high-tempo 40-minute practice today at Ristuccia Arena today.
Head coach Claude Julien and his staff are trying to strike a perfect balance this week, especially considering no one knows when Boston’s Eastern Conference final series with Tampa Bay will begin.
So the coach said he’s ready for a couple different scenarios.
“I think we had a real good meeting about that this morning with the coaches. We explained to them that we don’t know, is it going to be Thursday, is it going to be Saturday? We have to be prepared for both scenarios,” said Julien today after practice. “I’ve kind of prepared for the Thursday and the Saturday scenario and we’re hoping to get it clarified maybe by tomorrow night. If we get that, then at least Wednesday you’re going to be heading in the right direction and we’ll make that decision hopefully Tuesday night, after the game, when we know more.”
Both Western Conference semifinal series are headed to a Game 6, with Vancouver and Nashville playing theirs tonight and Detroit and San Jose going at it tomorrow. The Red Wings-Sharks Game 7 would be Thursday if it’s necessary, which would probably push the Boston-Tampa Bay series back. The NHL won’t reveal its plans until those series are through.
A possible wrench in the NHL schedulers’ plans is that in Tampa next week will be Disney on Ice at the St. Pete Times Forum, May 19-22. That could cause games to be bunched together or ridiculously spread out.
