Seguin slides next to Ryder, Peverley for Bruins practice
WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Patrice Berger0n-less Bruins returned to practice today at Ristuccia Arena after taking two days off to recover from their four-game sweep of Philadelphia.
Rookie Tyler Seguin, who has been a healthy scratch for the first 11 postseason games, might have to get into the lineup when the Eastern Conference final series with Tampa Bay finally opens up because Bergeron is out with a mild concussion. Today in practice, Seguin skated on a line with Rich Peverley at center and Michael Ryder on the other wing.
Everyone except Bergeron was on the ice.
Chris Kelly moved up between Mark Recchi and Brad Marchand.
Adam McQuaid, out with a sprained neck he suffered in Game 2 of the Flyers series, practiced with the team for the first time.
Trent Whitfield joined rookies Jordan Caron and Jamie Arniel on a fifth Bruins line. It was the first time Whitfield joined the parent club for any type of skate since the playoff started.

the thing about Peverley, Thornton and Ryder together is that they would be the line seeing the least ice time in that scenario. let’s do MAR/KEL/SEG and RYD/PEV/REC, then, leaving the first and fourth lines as they have been recently. RYD/PEV/SEG is kind of worrying, defensively, but it should be temporary and TBL isn’t perfect, so it’s not a huge deal.
The Bolts have been rolling 4 lines, so I think Seguin will see plenty of ice time.
Tru, i wouldnt mess with the lines that much. Peverly and Thornton on the same line? With Ryder?
I think Seguin has to play more than 7. The only way he doesnt is if Paille double shifts on that line, or some other winger like Marchand or something…right?
I think Seguin will play well. Game is at home, he will be amped and he wants to play
over under on segzy toi? i’m guessing 7 minutes.
In a close game Paille and Seguin will be swapped for the 3rd period when the bench shortens.
I think the simple replacements are a good sign that Bergeron is more day-to-day than out indefinitely, at this point. if Bergeron is actually concussed seriously, then I’d like to see some shuffling and condensing. I think the chance to mess with what TBL must be studying for and seeing on DVR should be taken. I’d close the practices with tight security and go Flipmode on that other squad. obviously the first line should be left alone, but there are several other combinations that appeal to me, even while holding to the wing positionings. right now, my preference would be:
LUC/KRE/HOR
MAR/KEL/SEG
PAI/CAM/REC
RYD/PEV/THOR
CHA/SEI
FER/BOY
KAB/MCQ
THOM(RAS)
I’d probably want Seguin and Ryder to be interchangeable, switching wings and lines depending on who is actually playing and holding up defensively. ideally, McQuaid would be healthy enough to switch with Boychuck who would sub in leaving Kaberle benched as much as possible. as much as I do like the lines they practiced with today and the lines they’d ease back to when Bergeron can play, they aren’t so perfect as to let this opportunity (assuming a Saturday game one) to test drive some scoring lines go by without flexing a Plan B. tightly closed practices and altered-line drills give some serious flexibility and an actual surprise factor for if/when/how Bergeron returns. I’m not sure what has worked varyingly well against other teams will cut it against the on-fire Lightning, but I don’t profess to know that team well enough to be certain. here’s to a productive week, regardless of the lines. what a year! what a playoff run, so far! whoo!
Can you imagine if Seguin is actually effective?
I also really like the speed of the new look third line. Seguin and peverly will be tough to contain, and Ryder plays his best when he has to skate hard to keep up.
That also keeps Paille and Campbell available for PK without messing up the top 3 lines
When everyone was throwing line ideas up against the wall the other day this was the one that made the most sense to me. Move Kelly up, slide Peverley over and slot Seguin in. I think keeping at least two lines together is the best option at this point. Keep your top line chemistry together as well as your checking line. I hope it works. But with that in mind GO WINGS! GO PREDS! and GO PATRICE’S BRAIN!
Seems logical to me
My guess is we don’t see Seguin in a tight game at the end. Soup or Paill will move up
