The Bruins are on the verge of getting bumped down the historic playoff-series collapse list … again.
If Detroit can prevail in tonight’s Game 7 of its Western Conference semifinal series at San Jose, it will be just the fourth team in NHL history to overcome an 0-3 deficit. And the Sharks will be ahead of the 2010 Bruins when people harken back to “this hasn’t happened since …”
This is the second time in these playoffs that the Bruins were almost bumped down the list. Chicago pushed Vancouver to seven games in the first round after trailing 0-3. The Blackhawks lost the final game in overtime.
Honestly, if ever there was a series that never felt lopsided even when it was 3-0 Sharks, it’s this one. Five of the six games have been decided by one goal, and the sixth included an empty-net goal for a two-goal spread. Four times the winning team has trailed entering the third period.
Game 7 promises to be as close as the previous match-ups. As a Bruins fan, you might be pulling for Detroit both because of your desire to not be as associated with a historic downfall and to see Joe Thornton fail again. Or maybe you’re still holding out hope for a Bruins-Sharks Stanley Cup final.
So make a prediction for tonight:

I live in Jumbo Joe country. It’s funny how business’s have Shark logos up instead of the spoked B. I don’t know any Shark fans except those loyal to a local guy. Many of the old timers around here are either Leaf or Wings fans. My old man is a Wings fan but he took me to watch the B’s training camp as a kid and the rest is history. I know if he didn’t I’d have had a few cups to celebrate with the Hockeytown faithful. I’ll always cheer for the Wings except when they play the Bs.
So far this series, we have seen 2 San Jose teams and 2 Detroit teams. Which one will show up? I personally hope it is the Detroit team that played in Game 6. If that is the case, it really doesn’t matter which SJ shows.
GO WINGS!
That should be, “…when a team rallies…”
It’s a coin toss. I saw the stat recently that in the NHL when a rallies from being down 3-0 in a series to force a game 7, that team has a record of 3-4. It’s a small sample, but it shows that forcing the game 7 is the harder part. If you do, it’s almost a coin toss, and Detroit wins, it will be.
From what I’ve seen, the Wings have been the more dominant team, but I would kind of like to see a Bruins-Sharks final. Got to get by the Bolts first, though.
Harry Sinden’s comment from 3 years ago about Jumbo Joe comes to mind, “good batting average but no runs batted in”..Jumbo Joe’s comments earlier this year about the B’s getting special treatment from the league regarding Lucic and Chara didn’t endear him with B’s either.
Let’s see what he brings in tonight’s game.
You said it Truth! Chicago came so close… Go Wings Go.
Yah JD you might be right because of the odds. I voted Wings because somehow the Sharks find a way to lose. Detroit looked really strong on the puck last game mistake free. I say it comes down to Niemi to hold the fort but Jumbo disappears when he is needed .
Lets go Wings so we don’t have to keep hearing about our collapse last year and we will have company.
Wings will win but i want Sharks to win. Want to keep the potental of a bruins sharks finals alive
I would like nothing more to see Flumbo Joe fall on his face, the Wings scare the crap out of me if it comes to the fials vs the Bruins. That dismantling home and home still haunts me as one of the lowest points of the season.
I would feel better about the Bruins if Detroit was out of the playoffs, but they dominated the Sharks so much in game 6 that I can’t see Detroit losing. Other than Boyle, Niemi is getting no help from the defense.
Go Wings.
It’d be amazing if SJ loses after being up 3-0, and our former #1 would have failed just as badly as a the B’s last year. That said, I’d rather see SJ in the playoffs. Go SJ.
Datsyuk consistently amazes me. But I am far from being bored of watching him do what he does. WOW!!
Problem: If the Wings & the Bruins battle for the tin? Well……..
Like I said, anything left in the waters is reaching for air hard right now! Watch for Sharks ashore thing
Hoping for SJ, Joe was very soft in that last game!
Going with San Jose…I mean, they have to win one of these days…
Even being in the “Shark tank”, I think the Wings are going to win this one.
to “see Joe Thornton fail again” ? Who – me? Nope, lol !
Go Wings.
