GM tells T&R Bergeron’s improving, Seguin will stay in Bruins’ lineup
During his weekly radio appearance with Toucher and Rich on 98.5 The Sports Hub, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli offered some interesting updates on Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin today.
Chiarelli said Bergeron was scheduled to travel with the Bruins to Tampa for Game 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Final, which is tied 1-1. As for Bergeron’s availability to return from his concussion and play, Chiarelli said:
“He’s improving rapidly. I can’t tell you with certainty that he’ll be in. But he’s been really good.”
Chiarelli noted that Bergeron, who has been out since May 6, skated after his team’s morning skate with the “Black Aces” and absorbed some light contact yesterday.
As for Seguin, who has taken Boston and the Stanley Cup playoffs by storm after sitting out the first 11 postseason games, Chiarelli had this to say about what will happen to the rookie once Bergeron returns:
“I think we’ll find a spot for him.”
I’m not sure the Bruins will find a spot as much as he will demand and take one. Seguin is now in charge and the Bruins will have to do as he says from here on out.

paille ain’t the odd man out with his pk skilz.
“Only on the Sportshub can you hear someone say ‘Claude needs to be fired even if the Bruins win the cup’.”
Yeah, and it’s such nonesense. I thought Red Sox managers had it bad pre-2004, but honestly, it’s amazing how in some people’s eyes it’s impossible that Julien has anything to do with the Bruins’ success yet he is personally responsible for virtually all of their flaws. He stuck with his system and it paid off, and he sent his message to Seguin, and message received. Thanks to the organization’s willingness to trust their coach on this issue, they pretty much ensured that we will not end up with another spoiled brat like Phil Kessel. Unless the last two games are a total fluke, we now have a really skilled player who is learning how to play both sides of the ice, something which probably would not have happened if he had been allowed to just play his own game all season.
.
Peverley bumping Recchi to the fourth line works with me. that would be:
LUC/KRE/HOR
MAR/BER/PEV
RYD/KEL/SEG
PAI/CAM/REC(THOR)
CHA/SEI
FER/BOY
KAB/MCQ
THOM(RAS)
I could see McQuaid taking Boychuk’s spot after the last two games in which Boychuk was not very good. I would be quite surprised if it isn’t Thornton that watches game number three from above.
It’s 100% going to be Thornton. Paille’s PK duties and speed are too important.
there is no way the one man PK machine that is Dan Paille sits in a series against Tampa.
You don’t sit one of your PKers to play Thornton. Yes Thornton brings intangibles, but in this series Thornton is the odd man out. I don’t see Lucic sitting-and I think Recchi is more versatile than Thornton and could easily play on the 4th line but be available for special teams or other roles.
I am not sure what Julien will do though-hard to predict as far as lines-I think though given the success that is Ryder and Seguin-they can’t break up that line (and Kelly seems to center them better than Peverly-no offense to Peverly). I think Peverly on Bergeron’s wing with Marchand on the other could also be a very dangerous line.
Shoot while there aren’t any super star forwards on the team, I think moving Recchi to the fourth would make 4 pretty dangerous lines if the defensive match ups aren’t right.
no doubt it is either Thornton, Lucic or Recchi that sits. 80% Thornton.
I think this will leave Paille as the odd man out. He hasn’t been playing terribly, but Bergeron and Seguin will both be in the lineup next game.
It was really nice to Savard in the press box.
I think Seguin has earned a spot on the team-I think the question is who gets to sit and what are the lines going to look like if/when Bergeron returns (Sounds like a return is pretty likely or I would expect them to leave Bergeron in Boston). I think it will be Thornton, because as much as I hate to say it, he is the most expendable as far as what he brings-I like Thornton, but I think he is the odd man out.
savvy looked healthier than bergy up in the press box last night.
this is copied from a post I made elsewhere, so it may not seem entirely topical, but it has some points I’d like to make here, anyway:
prevent is bad policy in most sports. Seguin got his shifts in the third, but there were very few chances within them. Boychuk did have two bad games in a row and Kampfer is available, but still not 100%. I doubt he’ll get much time in the near future, but I do expect him to be paired with Chara again, next year. it’s great to see Ryder and Seguin clicking, thanks in large part to the responsible play of Chrissy Kelly, but I really don’t want Seguin learning to play like Ryder. here’s what I’m hoping to see to start next season:
LUC/KRE/HOR
MAR/BER/SEG
PAI/KEL/PEV
CAR/CAM/THOR
CHA/KAM
FER/MCQ
SEI/BOY
THOM(RAS)
as for the here and now, I expect the Bruins to win the next three away games, which means losing the next home game during that stretch. Tampa would have to get lucky to win more than one more game. I do not wish them any such luck.
“Seguin is now in charge and the Bruins will have to do as he says from here on out.” writes S. Bradley
HUH? Where/who is the source of that statement in your article?
PC’s ambiguous statement about Bergy’s condition and availability Thursday will make the Bolt’s practice interesting, if not a tad longer than usual before game 3 . Boucher will have to prep them just in case Bergy does play.
Only on the Sportshub can you hear someone say ‘Claude needs to be fired even if the Bruins win the cup’.
Got to love p c he is king of the obvious.
Nothing from PC about how Borges got called out in the lockerroom after the game by a 10 year old for callously strolling over the spoked B!!! Fun for all NE fans!
Great problem to have!
