A little lame off ice, Bruins’ Lucic feeling like himself again on it
TAMPA — As the Bruins’ leading goal-scorer in the regular season, Milan Lucic could stand to put a few more pucks in the net to help Boston’s postseason cause.
Through 14 playoff contests, he has scored just twice — and both goals came in the same game (Game 4 vs. Philadelphia).
Nonetheless, Lucic is doing other things to help the Bruins win. Tonight in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final at the St. Pete Time Forum, he set up the first goal of the night, threw two hits and also helped keep the Bruins on the attack before their second goal.
Lucic seems to be rounding into form with the Bruins now up 2-1 in the series heading into Game 4 Saturday afternoon at the same venue. He has 2-4-6 totals for the postseason.
“My game’s gotten better as the playoffs have gone on and I’m kind of getting back to where it was in the regular season,” he said after the 2-0 win tonight. “I don’t know what happened. It was almost like I went from one player to someone I didn’t want to be.
“Today I think the main thing, reason why I had success, and every time we were on the ice we had success, was I was keeping my feet moving and I was straight-line making simple plays. No matter who you’re playing, when you do that you give yourself a chance to have success. And all in all, scoring goals and all that stuff is great, but in the end in the playoffs, it’s about getting wins.”
Lucic made a no-look pass from the right half-wall to David Krejci for the game’s first goal just 1:09 into the contest. The playmaker Krejci was a little jealous.
“All their forwards and defensemen, they kind of left me alone at the net,” said Krejci. “So it was great pass. I told him ‘how did he see me?’ He was looking the other way. So it was a great pass. He has great vision.”
Lucic also dumped the puck deep before going for a change to start the sequence that led to the Bruins’ second goal. Lucic is improving even as his health seems to be deteriorating. He hasn’t taken the last two game-day skates for Boston ever since he took a Tyler Seguin shot off the foot at practice last Monday.
He’s been seen limping around off the ice. Luckily for the Bruins, the injury — which no one can reveal, of course, because it’s playoff time — doesn’t seem to be keeping Lucic from coming on strong.

Lucic and the rest of that line are awesome along the boards
He didn’t hustle at all, he just made it look like a tougher play than it really was because he’s playing so slowwww.
Before you call me a hater let me tell you that I bought his jersey the day of game 1 vs MTL. Pretty sure I cursed him somehow.
Don’t forget, Looch is the one who hustled his butt off to get to a loose puck and keep it in the zone in the 3rd. He dumped it to Seguin who gave it to Kelly, then to Ryder, to Ference for a goal. That 2nd goal does not happen if not for Lucic’s hustle.
Also had nothing to say when Krejci got hit by that truck
I guess I watched a different game..
Nice pass on the goal and he hit a couple guys but I don’t think he won a single puck along the walls nor did he come out with many dumped in pucks. The guy is gliding around not playing anything like himself. I don’t know where the love is coming from… lifelong bruins fan
gritty performance by looch. you can tell he’s hurting out there / nowhere near 100%.
Spencer, if you think Horton =) doesn’t get the love here you haven’t been paying attention.
Droves of words devoted to his great 2nd half & playoffs.

He was a factor. I think we’ve come to expect that from our first line left winger. If that’s a sign of things to come as the games get progressively larger they are in good shape. He was directly responsible for both goals. I couldn’t be happier for him. Every player will have their ups and downs over two months. He’s had some downs. It’s the next shift that matters.
I am a diehard (far from bandwagon) bruins fan and season ticket holder and i am way against you on this one matt. His structural play has improved, but man looch, if u think ur playing a straight ahead skating game then FINISH A CHECK and get physically involved. His style his rookie season between the whistles incorporated with his newfound scoring and passing abilities would make him a top 10 NHL player in my mind, but he is very inconsistent as of right now and is not playing a physical brand of hockey.
On a side not, Matt, can horton get a little love? the guy skates his heart out every night, produces, and finishes his checks. I think he has been an underrated piece on this team during the postseason aside from his OT goals. His play has impressed me and i think he is a prototypical bruins winger.
He has improved throughout the playoffs. He isn’t playing anywhere near potential, but at least he is getting better with each game and each series. I thought he played awful in game 1, well in game 2 (after initially thinking he was awful and then recanting) and better in game 3. He had a very good game last night. He gets into trouble when he tries to do too much, like carry the puck out of the defensive zone. He is at his best when he is banging behind the offensive net or standing in front of the offensive net. All that being said, it is time for him to score.
He played solid last night. He was helping in the defensive zone and good on the boards.
Lucic may not be scoring goals but since the playoffs started he’s been a good set up man. He set up plenty of chances for Krejci and Horton in the Montreal series but they never finished (beside the o.t. goals from Horton). Lucic hasn’t been at the top of his game but he hasn’t disappeared either.
BB’s, I don’t know if it’s more than the bandwagon fans will CARE to tell you, I think it’s more than they even know. I don’t think that the bandwagon fans understand the importance of a heavy forecheck (or what a forecheck is for that matter), and they have no idea why dumping the puck into the offensive zone during a line change is so important.
I have him in a hockey pool and I still don’t mind Lucic not getting many points. The main goal is the Stanley Cup and I hope they continue playing solid like they did last night.
Agreed. Lucic has done far more this postseason than the scoresheet will tell you; and far more than the Bruins bandwagon fans will care to tell you.
