Julien says Bergeron blow on Bruins’ Krejci was a clean hit
TAMPA — After the Bruins downed Tampa Bay, 2-0, in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final last night, center David Krejci said he didn’t have a problem with the Marc-Andre Bergeron hit that leveled him late in the first period and cost him a couple shifts.
Today Bruins head coach Claude Julien reiterated those sentiments.
“I guess if you have time to look at the replay and you can look at in slow motion and you can do all that stuff, you’re going to say ‘well it was a good hit.’ That’s happened to us before from our end of it, you get called for penalties,” said the head coach after his team held an optional skate at the St. Pete Times Forum, the site of tomorrow’s Game 4 with the Bruins ahead two games to one.
“The one thing that we always said was the league is very sensitive head issues. Sometimes they’re making the call. Maybe it wasn’t the right call.
“But at the same time, they could’ve had a second penalty on that same play where the goaltender touched the puck outside the [trapezoid]. The referee was there and I think he didn’t call it because he’s probably trying to make up for it. So this is about being smart about those kinds of things and there were no issues from my end. It kind of made up for it. I think it all evened out in the end.”

A mistake made by the refs I can deal with, because it happens to both teams. What I really don’t like is make-up calls for any team. The closest person to Roloson was the ref and he even put the whistle to his mouth. The ice level mic picked up the ref telling Roloson that he handled it outside the trapezoid.
Agreed, no grey area. It was a shoulder to the chest that caused his head to snap back, not a head shot.
The hit was clean guys. No grey area there. Hockey play like they like to phrase it nowadays.
Did I read somewhere that the trapezoid rule is under review. Aren’t they suppose to go without it next training camp, and if all goes well, get back to the original rule?
claude >>> guy. latter had an embarrassing hissy fit after the bergeron call. he looked like clowncillo in need of a diaper change.
It is a grey area. No elbow to the head, but a shot to the head nonetheless. The NHL must figure out what it wants to do about that.
As for the non-call when Roloson touched the puck, I suspect Julien was being a little sarcastic for those morons not making that call. Huge non-call.
I think full speed, the follow through of Bergeron’s arm especially from the angle the ref was at did likely look like an elbow. The hit was clean.
Krejci needs to keep his head up though.
What a great response. Claude you are on fire.
