BOSTON — Reaching the Stanley Cup Final with a win in tonight’s Game 7 would be extra special for the Bruins’ lone Vancouver native.
Milan Lucic once brought glory to his hometown by leading the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League to the Memorial Cup championship. If he can help Boston beat Tampa Bay tonight in the last game of the Eastern Conference Final, he would get to try to play the spoiler.
“That night when [Vancouver] won [the Western Conference title], I think I had about 25, 35 messages on my phone when I woke up in the morning. The same thing this morning,” said Lucic after the morning skate today at the TD Garden. “Everyone would love to see me obviously go home and play the Canucks in the finals. Saying that, I’d love that opportunity too. But we definitely have to take advantage of that tonight.”
The Canucks defeated San Jose in five games in the Western Conference Final. Growing up, Lucic was even nicknamed “Gino” after his resemblance to Canucks standout Gino Odjick.
So Lucic might have an extra jump in his step against the Lightning.
“You’ve got to go out there, have fun, no regrets and lay it all on the line,” he said.

I thought Lucic finally showed up for a game the other night-and have my fingers crossed that he shows up tonight and the rest of the team arrives with him.
I think other than the absolute abysmal PP this teams biggest achilles heel is their inconsistency as a team with regard to compete level.

So that’s where Gino comes from. I thought Savard thought Looch looked Italian and nick named him “Gino”.
