VANCOUVER — NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy today confirmed what everyone else expected considering the Canucks and Bruins are playing in the Stanley Cup Final and not in January.
Forward Alex Burrows will not be suspended for his bite of Boston center Patrice Bergeron in last night’s Game 1.
“After reviewing the incident, including speaking with the on-ice officials, I can find no conclusive evidence that Alex Burrows intentionally bit the finger of Patrice Bergeron,” Murphy said in a statement.
Well, the video clearly shows Burrows leaning his head forward with the finger in his mouth and putting his hand over Bergeron’s. If someone put a finger in my mouth, I would jolt my head back and swat it away with my hand. But then again I never played in the NHL, so I don’t know how hungry players get during the game.
A more honest statement just saying Burrows’ actions weren’t worthy of a suspension in the Cup Final might’ve made more sense. But the whole “hear no evil, see no evil” thing is a perennial approach the league takes in these matters.
So Burrows will be available for Saturday night’s Game 2. Maybe he’ll also get an endorsement deal with a dentist.

…………..and they shaved it down & taught it to speak,
but they could not take away it’s cannibalistic instinct.

It’s the finals suck it up and give it out. Good god four wins from history go get em, nifty will still have a story about that to.
I’ve seen worse. When I was a kid the juvenile team was practicing and two guys got in a fight. One guy bit the others cheek. That is something you don’t forget. I even remember their names and especially the biters. His name was Fox coincidently.
Were there people expecting a different outcome here?? C’mon guys!
They hear and see evil just like us. It’s the speak evil part they don’t publicly do. In the end this crap evens out for everybody, every team ect..during the course of a season, career and, less elegantly imo, during a game.
Like I said. It is what it is, like they all say in Hockey nowadays saving the goat and the cabbage at the same time. We don’t make the rules we cope with it.
No one bites in hockey except a mentally unstable individual. Nurse Ratchett where are you?
what, these?

Oh my-that was priceless. The team should stick one of those on a sign outside TD Garden, but the Canucks fans might whine that we are picking on them too.
It is about time other teams in the league start getting away with stuff. Those of you saying the Bruins can now do whatever they want, they have been doing whatever they want all year. They are now getting a taste of their own medicine. Now that COlon Campbell is no longer in charge, everything is no longer pro-Bruins. . Bet used to it Bruins.
Dinner will be served shortly after the 1st period horn. Our main dish on Saturday will be Henrik Sedin’s left ear and it will be both prepared and served by Mike Tyson
If Torres can go around punching people in the head and cutting them and it’s not a penalty. Then lets play some old time hockey. I don’t care if we get another power play this year. I’d rather stay at five than take a dive.
You know I would love for the B’s to go all big and nasty on the Canucks-but I think it will backfire. The refs will call all the chippy crap on the B’s while the Canucks will chip away all they want-and even if the refs do make the occasional call to say they are being fair, it isn’t going to do a darn thing to help the Bruins, because power plays do not help them-power plays tend to be giant momentum suckers because the team can’t score.
Katie bar the door. The Canucks have brung a knife to a gunfight. Mr. Thorton please sign in.
I guess Looch can start cross checking people in the head now as long as he says he didn’t do it. Fair is fair.
ToTaL BS to even question if Bergy would make this shit up is unreal ! Not even a fine…Bring it on you little nucks, time for some BIG BAD BRUIN style hockey. If the crap call are going to continue so be it.
GO BRUINS GO !!! ALL OF EM.
Well the fix is in.
Honestly I think most conspiracy stuff is pure crap. What tees me off about this call is more that the league has now turned Bergeron-one of the most professional hockey players in the league-into a liar.
I would much rather have gotten a “we levied this fine” or even a “we decided it was wrong but didn’t warrant a suspension” type decision, but this is crap.
I am also troubled by the fact that this also seems to open the door for an anything goes on slightly over the edge chippy play-and that kind of play will eventually hurt the Bruins either by giving them a PP or with our guys getting called for the chippy play while the Canucks skate away (there was the hit on Kelly and Sedin’s stick between Ferences leg just before Ference popped him with a cross check and Sedin dove like he had been shot and of course this bite).
Looks like the B’s are in for a very chippy series and even worse the Canucks won’t care if they give us a power play because our power play sucks.
Colin Campbell obviously wants his son’s name on the cu…. Wait a freakin’ minute.
That is the silver lining here. An ‘us against the world” mentality usually wins. If I were the Bruins, I now know that the NHL wants the Cup back in Canada. Anyone watching Versus/NBC knows they want Vancouver
Us against the world
this is beyond fucked up. not suspending for biting is bush league, by definition. is this a pro sport, still? Burrows should get at least two games, but were I in charge, I’d have let his “six games or a month, whichever comes first” suspension without pay serve as a warning to the flop/dive/bite/punch/third-man-in crowd. I’d be calling for the same thing, were it Horton tasting Kesler’s blood. bullshit-en board material, this is.
Well, I would say this opens the door to basically do whatever we want
One of the shiniest guys in the league. How does that B52 song go “shiny happy people biting hands”
