VANCOUVER — Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg had a chance to call Dirk a jerk.

But he passed today after Boston practiced at the University of British Columbia in preparation for Saturday night’s Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Canucks.

During Wednesday’s Vancouver victory in Game 1, the Rogers Arena Jumbotron showed a quick video of Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki wishing Canucks defenseman, and fellow German, Christian Ehrhoff good luck in the series.

That caused a chuckle in the press box over the slight of another German defenseman — Seidenberg. The laughter made it’s way all the way down to the bench, where Seidenberg even laughed about the video.

Today he explained why he thinks Nowitzki decided to favor Vancouver over Boston.

“The Dallas Mavericks’ trainer is either a Vancouver fan or from Vancouver, I’m not sure. He always keeps him up to date, tells him story. I guess that’s the reason he’s cheering for them. I have no idea,” said a puzzled Seidenberg.

Regardless of the outcome of this series, Ehrhoff or Seidenberg will become the second German to get his name on the Cup. Previously only Colorado defenseman Uwe Krupp has earned that honor.

Something tells me Nowitzki is going to be proud either way.
