VANCOUVER — The Bruins are in an interesting predicament with their lineup right now.
On the one hand, they’ve scored just one goal over the last two games and need offense.
On the other hand, Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final was a physical contest with a lot of intimidation coming from both sides during Vancouver’s 1-0 win.
So one has to assume the Bruins’ coaching staff is at least considering some sort of lineup change that would involve getting Shawn Thornton, a healthy scratch since Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final against Tampa Bay, back into uniform. Picking someone to come out would be difficult, although rookie Tyler Seguin has been quiet since early in the Lightning series and logged just a little more than six minutes of ice time in Game 1 against the Canucks.
Today during his morning media briefing at his team’s hotel, Bruins head coach Claude Julien sounded as though he was content with going into tonight’s Game 2 with the same 12 forwards that dropped the first game of this series.
“Every game is about making decision here,” said Julien. “Shawn, for us right now, is a guy that has been in the dressing room between the first and the second [period], and the second and the third. He’s in the warm-up, he’s getting dressed with the players, he’s still doing his job and whenever he hasn’t been playing, he’s still been a big asset to our hockey club. … We know he’s won a Stanley Cup. And we do know that when he did win it he had to miss some games as well.
“We’re in a position here where we have to make decisions based on our needs and what has to happen. … A guy like Tyler, the way he played when [Patrice Bergeron] came back, we had to keep him in the lineup. As games go on, we make decisions. So what I’m saying today might be different tomorrow, and so on and so forth.”

Sit Recchi and play Thornton
this coach is already thinking about next year and how lucky we are to have him. He sucks his style sucks and we are stuck with him no matter what
6-minutes of Thorton or 6-minutes of The Kid. Thats the choice from the coach. Pathetic.
Ju’s comments seem to indicate that if Thorton was to play it’d be at Seguin’s expense not Rex’s. My stomach is calling my throat for room.
One can’t work against the tide, can he? I am truly disgusted. The cement head attitude must have chased Julien out of Jersey more than anything else. At the time I really thought Lamoriello was at fault but I can see clearer now.
It was said by numerous habs players of the seventies that the success of the team came from a genuine group hate towards Bowman. I guess Julien uses the same frame of thought….I cannot figure out his thinking otherwise.
I guess we should all start praising Rex n see what that does Ju.
Totally agree George, Thornton would be a big help pounding on the Van D even with limited ice time…Rex off the PP, either Seguin or March in, at least they move their feet and r moving in the zone…but it is C.J s choice and 2nd guessing is for bloggers…
To me the is really easy, but I’m not the coach and I don’t have to tell a HOF player he’s benched. Thornton should be on the fourth line for his added physical play and stick up for teammates without sending Lucic or Horton to the box. Peverly and Seguin should get mixed up into the 2nd and 3rd lines depending on who Vancouver is sending out v.s. the Bergeron line.
In the first two series, everyone said there really was not reason for Tyler Seguin to be out there the way the team was playing. Right now there really is no reason for Recchi to be out there, he’s been ineffective in every situation during the past 2 weeks. He’s not passing well, he’s too slow, and he is already seeing his icetime diminish. Seeing Recchi take offensive zone faceoffs for the 2nd PP unit during the playoffs blows my mind.
Its unfortunate to be sure, Recchi has been the model NHL player but I just do not think he should be out there right now.
