BOSTON — Bruins head coach Claude Julien didn’t want to comment on Vancouver center Maxim Lapierre’s decision to taunt Patrice Bergeron by sticking his fingers in the Bruins center’s face during Saturday night’s Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.
But when it comes to Lapierre, Julien just can’t help himself. So when asked about the sportsmanship of the whole thing, the Bruins bench boss had this to say:
“I can’t really talk about their team. I can talk about mine. Because I don’t handle those players. I don’t deal with those players on a 1-on-1 basis. It’s not really for me to, I guess, comment on it.
“If it’s acceptable for them, so be it. Certainly wouldn’t be acceptable on our end. You guys know me well enough to know that. So there’s not much I can say about that.”
“The NHL rules on something and they decide to make a mockery of it, that’s totally up to them. If that’s their way of handling things, so be it. Again, we can’t waste our time on that kind of stuff. We really have to focus on what we have to do.”
The taunt was obviously a reference to Alex Burrows bite on Bergeron in Game 1. The league deemed it didn’t have conclusive evidence of intent to suspend Burrows. So instead Burrows enjoys a three-point night and Lapierre taunts the player that was victimized by the bite.
If the on-ice taunt wasn’t enough, captain Henri Sedin filmed this introduction for NBC for Game 2.
I don’t quite get why the Canucks wouldn’t just thank the league for going easy on their biter and move on. But that’s just me.

Boy. For a guy with no comment he sure had a lot to say. Was he crying when he said it? I think it would have been more appropriate if Lapierre had thrown his water bottle at bergy
Paille isn’t from Quebec either. He is also from Ontario. Just because the last name sounds French doesn’t mean his from Quebec.
And honestly the yapping on the ice doesn’t bother me all that much-it happens. The little introduction does. It looks cheap, it makes Sedin look cheap and it just makes me even more ticked off at the league for throwing Bergeron’s reputation under the bus in order to avoid making the call on suspension.
Also, it sounds like Julien was asked about the yapping and I think his answer is fine-his answer is pretty much the truth. Julien only allows his players to yap so close to the line and then he reigns them in. Marchand has said this in several interviews now when his antics have skirted or crossed the line. Also Marchand has indicated the Captain and two A’s along with some other veterans have used the locker room to pull him aside and tell him when he is pushing the line.
Julien spoke the truth-he probably wouldn’t have tolerated that kind of taunt, and I am positive that we wouldn’t have seen Chara, Recchi or Bergeron poking fun of it in an off ice presentation on national TV.
Marchand maybe, although I suspect even then he most likely would have just run his mouth in an interview vs doing something that official.
Boston crybabies! What about Ferrence, Horton and Peverly… Class acts? I think not.
Hey Julien,
It’s not a mockery of the NHL, it’s a mockery of your Bruins… Don’t do anything stupid tonight when the game is out of hand. The NHL always gets the retaliation calls
RD … The list was a very appropriate response
Snerd
It’s been a re-occurring theme for weeks now McTeagle which makes me think it’s a general attitude. Obviously it was far worse during the Montreal series but it just doesn’t stop with SOME of you guys.
I stand corrected on Marc Savard but his French is flawless.
RD, before we perpetuate any more “stupid” generalizations, please retract the “you guys” you opened with. One person made that comment. More than one immediately corrected him.
Savvy is actually from ontario
“It’s not a coincidence that the 2 players showing zero class are from the Quebec province.”
This kind of stupidity never gets old with you guys, does it?

All ex-bruins from Quebec.
Oh and by the way, Cam Neely was born about an hour outside of Vancouver.
FIRE JULIEN. If this guy is so concerned about what the other team is doing rather than getting his team to play with more intensity, than I’d say FIRE his ass.
Bruins are playing like they are afraid to lose. Those 2 games in Van could of both been won.
What has Seguin contributed in this series? His line is atrocious.
Meh non-story … I laughed at it, was actually pretty funny.
I like that Julien has a no tolerance policy on this sort of stuff and that guys like Marchand need to keep this sort of d-baggery in check, but this particular incident was pretty funny, not unlike Marchand’s golf swing.
“It’s not a coincidence that the 2 players showing zero class are from the Quebec province.”
Umm Patrice is from the Quebec province. You saying he has zero class?

How bizarre/infuriating was that video? Lapierre I can understand; he’s just a punk. But it becomes an organizational thing when they have the Sedins doing that intro.
Meanwhile, Phil, don’t drag all of Quebec into it. Bergy is from Quebec, and he has handled the whole situation with nothing but class.
Time to play Bruins hockey! Were not going to win playing Canucks hockey. Lets go boys, get fired up tonight!
They had a nice little pre-game intro sponsored/condoned by NBC/Versus. Good decision not to suspend Burrows. Great call there.
It’s not a coincidence that the 2 players showing zero class are from the Quebec province.
