Final score: Bruins 4, Vancouver 0
BOSTON — So here’s a great stat from the “Twitter-verse.”
In Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final Monday, the Bruins’ banner captain was Cam Neely — No. 8 — and the Bruins scored eight goals.
Tonight in Game 4, the Bruins scored four goals with No. 4 Bobby Orr on hand for both the pregame banner captain honor and a mid-game Jumbotron appearance.
If the Bruins don’t bring back Johnny Bucyk — No. 9 — for Game 6, they’re out of their minds.
The Cup Final is now tied at two games apiece as the Bruins rode the emotion of Orr’s appearance and the “win one for Horty” mantra to a 4-0 win over Vancouver at the TD Garden.
“It’s a huge support to have such an icon coming to the game and showing support,” said captain Zdeno Chara about Orr. “It’s a huge honor for all of us and I’m sure for all of Boston and the fans. We are so happy to be able to have such names like him and other players that are part of this organization, just because they won and they’ve been winners. It’s a huge motivation.”
Added defenseman Dennis Seidenberg: “Sometimes you just look up, and when you see a guy like him up there, it’s definitely really, I guess, a good feeling to see a guy like that watching us and rooting for us.”
Game 5 is Friday night back at Rogers Arena.
Here’s a quick glance at the box score:
•The Bruins have now outscored Vancouver, 12-1, since Nathan Horton was knocked out of the series by Aaron Rome’s hit in the first period of Game 3. Rich Peverley, who took the majority of shifts in Horton’s place next to David Krejci and Milan Lucic scored two goals on just two shots on net and was a plus-2.
•Brad Marchand and Michael Ryder scored the other two goals. David Krejci notched two assists.
•Henrik and Daniel Sedin were held to just two shots on net each and were both minus-1.
•Tim Thomas stopped all 38 shots to come his way.
How about Horty?
Bourque over Chief? I dunno about that. What about Schmidt?!
Why would the bruins bring bucyk for game 6? They should go with bourque.
Milbury is no idiot. If the Bruins were chicken he would say it. Van has no one to rally around. The Bruins have each other.
Great game a total team effort.I thought Ryder and Peverly were outstanding.Sidenberg was all world on defense he has been our best defence man by far.The guy deserves some Conn smythe votes .The pk was awesome great all around game
The CBC sucks. Those 3 announcer over there are so biased for Van that i think they get bonus money for mentioning the word Vancouver.
Cherry was pissed after Gm2 that he didn’t even give his post-game analysis. You know who he cheering for but because of those douche Canadian fans he has to mention some things positive.
Vancouver fans are the equivalent to Miami Heat fans. FICKLE.
Bruins need to keep that intensity in Van.
Good for you steamer it takes a man to face the music when the weather isn’t so fair.
12-1 in two games, total this SCF is 15-4 bruins????
Where are all the Vancouver tough guys???
Where are the lame Hab fan trolls??
Crickets
Tim thomas,tim thomas, tim thomas.
tim thomas, tim thomas… Sorry i haven’t woken up from that nightmare last night…Outplayed, outhustled, outworked, out scrummed, outturtled,
Series is tied 2-2. Well done Bruins… Now we have a huge series swing. We’ll see what our boys are made of now.
Milbury is an idiot. He’s a broadcaster, you can be biased in your views but name calling, please grow up.
I’m sure CBC asked Grapes to tone it down so he said he thought Vancouver would win. I’m not holding it against him because I know who he wants to win. That’s my second favourite pic of Bobby.
Bojangles, McT, I’ve said it before.
You guys say the networks are against the Bruins but when I turn on the TV, it’s either Cherry, Milbury or PJ Stock giving ‘analysis’. Some of it is blatant cheerleading as we saw by Milbury in game 3.
It’s fine. I’m not going to complain about that. I just don’t want to hear that Boston isn’t represented on these broadcasts because they most definitely are.
It’s amazing how much of a difference goaltending makes. Thomas has been lights out, Luongo is playing his way out of a starting job…and possibly the NHL with that MASSIVE contract.
real nice pic.
Agreed Bojangles, I think the refs did a good job overall. Only complaint is, I wish Erhoff got a 5-min major for “Extreme Turtle-ing”
…. and I’ve been beating up the Refs. I thought they had a really solid game (Thanks in large part to Murphy saving them).
McT: I agree – if I were a Nucks fan I wouldn’t be pleased… But I think Milbury is just saying what most viewers are thinking.
Embarrassing to be a Nucks fan right now – We’ll see how they respond in front of the Church Pews in Vancouver.
Gotta wonder if we’ll be hearing any Loooooooooooooo chants this go ’round. It may very well get drowned out by Boooooooooooooo.
Yeah I think its hilarious how the NBC/Versus/Hockey Media bias has shifted in this series. Going in, it was nothing but over-hype and praise for the golden children who hoisted the President’s Trophy. After the first couple of games, the focus remained on Vancouver but their antics, you could tell, were starting to get under the skin of many members of the hockey media. And now after the last couple of games and a Bruins resurgence, its all sorts of thinly-veiled rooting for the hometown B’s. What’s the deal, boys? Tired of watching your beloved Sedin Sisters flop their way into Stanley Cup infamy?
The game will be very tight I expect in Vancouver. Thankfully the Bruins seem to recognize that based on Marchand’s and other’s comments when asked if they thought they had the advantage: “no, not at all.”
On the other hand, these two games were sweet as can be, after having to listen so much to how the Bs couldn’t compete with the Nucks, and after all the well(overly)-documented taunting and diving etc.
On a personal note of bias, I love how Mike Millbury vented his spleen after game 3 about how he liked the way the Bs responded to an “arrogant and smug” Vancouver team. And then he sounded like a poster on this blog when he referred to the Sedins as “Thelma and Louise.” If I were a Vancouver fan watching that I’d be infuriated. But I’m not so I laughed.
Give it time, I’m sure they will show up.
Well well, we have a series.
3 game series for the Stanley cup.
The cannucks looked like they were at parachuting school the way they went to their bellys and covered their heads. I hear chickens crowing in the distance.
I wanted them to get one on Schneider but that would screw up Matts numeralogy.
Game Four.
Number Four waving the Horton banner.
Bruins score Four.
Just an awesome coincidence.
WE, as in the B’s and all the Bruins fans, are back in it boys!! Woohoo, now that’s Bruins hockey!
How many times now have the Bruins booted the other team’s goalie? That is a stat I’d love to hear.
The B’s force another Stanley Cup Playoff opponent to start the “Goalie Carousel”….cue the carnival music!
Great game by TT, the PK unit and all the B’s D-men. Another B’s “team character- W”…WOOHOO!
Steeeeeaaama…
Ssstttteeeeeeeeeaaaaaaama..
SSSssssttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaammmmmaaa..
and VanBoy, SnordGronk, Pierre T, and the rest of you friggin’ Nucks.
What’s that you say?????????…….
Little Marchy said.. “Bring it little Bitches”.
Game on, boys! This thing is over so long as the Bs can keep the emotion up in that morgue of a rink in ‘Couver.
Hopefully they keep Luongo in net. The Bruins have his number. And with Marchand , and the other B’s neutralizing the Sedin sisters, I’m feeling good. But they have to prove that they can do it in Vancouver. What kind of captain lets a pest like Marchand hook and slash him without even a nudge. Gotta love Timmy standing up to Burrows. Go B’s!
