VANCOUVER — The line of Ryan Kesler centering Christopher Higgins and Mason Raymond combined for 20 shots on net in Game 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final back in Boston.
But at the end of Vancouver’s two losses to the Bruins, who tied the series heading into tonight’s Game 5, that trio hadn’t recorded a single point.
Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault has some solutions that might make his team’s second line more effective as this series unfolds.
“I think they’ve got to try and get on the inside a little bit more,” said Vigneault after his team’s morning skate at Rogers Arena. “That whole line has great speed and when they do get the puck on the fly, they can take it to the net.
“But you’ve got to take it to the net, stay in front and, you know, compete for that net-front presence. And all those guys can do that. They’ve proven it at different times this year, and I’m confident that we’re going to do that tonight.”

relax, guys. jpt is matt kalman.
It’s funny to see upset Habs fans taking time to post on here between their front & back nines. Must have a pretty good handicap when your season begins in April
JPT – the only thing disgraceful are your posts. Back in your hole, already.
I think what JPT is alluding to ( and believe me I am loath to defend him) is all the idiots who were claiming Pacioretty was faking his concussion because he went to a movie 2 days later. The fact is that brain injury is still mystery and everyone recovers differently. That being said I seem to remember some very vitriolic posts from JPT condemning all those who raised the same suspicions about Pac. So by doing so he has proven that he is no better than them. Anyone with half a brain knows that both guys were hurt BADLY. So can this please be the last mention of faking it…unless we are talking about the Sedins…in which case acute away!
JPT….Time to move out of moms basement!
as far as the game goes I think as long as refs let em play the B’s can pull it out and wrap it up on home ice. As good as our PK has been, (i hate to say it) but I have a hard time believing that Van isnt due for a game changing PP goal.
this might be the 2nd dumbest post, albeit a faaaaaaar 2nd:
if tonights game goes deep into OT will nbc cover the whole game or will switch to vs? or nesn here in northeast? my bloodpressure and health of my DVR thanks you.
I am stunned at the statement by jpt.
JPT, that might be the dumbest post in the history of the internet.
Leaving aside the fact that he was obviously hurt, how often to first-line forwards fake injury to ensure the suspension of a third-pair d-man? Jesus.
Heard that Horton made a visit to the Bruins dressing room after last game. Is it possible that maybe this guy is faking his injury. Its possible he is faking just to motivate his team and also to make sure Rome was suspended. If he is doing that, it would be disgraceful.
Well I am quite content for Kesler to remain in a scoring drought-unless of course he is kicking or shooting more pucks past Luongo.
I do think that when the finals are over that Kesler’s name is going to be one of the walking wounded who needs some kind of surgery or other procedure-or at least some kind of rest for a nagging injury.
I also think Lucic is among the walking wounded. But then this time of year and at this point in the series I imagine it isn’t how much you hurt but whether you can still play through the injury. Most guys are walking wounded to one degree or another.
You kidding me? Kesler’s been lighting the lamp of late – For the Bs!! Own goals are just demoralizing, and can create a little hopeless feeling among weak minded netminders like one playing in this series, for instance.
Ed Grimly yes, or I was thinking this…http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/celebrity/hollywood/nick-nolte
I agree he would make a fine Bruin one day.
For some reason his haircut in that pic always reminds me of Ed Grimley. I guess it’s just how pointy it seems.
The guy plays on the edge and sometimes over, but that is not unlike a few Bruins I know and love. 4 games in and I still don’t hate him, which is more than I can say of most of the Canucks.
This game is going to be the toughest yet I am sure, but worth a ton if they can somehow gut it out. My kingdom for an early goal!
kesler is banged up pretty bad relative to queen standards.
