BOSTON — We all know Nathan Horton is always smiling.
So to see him a little glassy-eyed rinkside tonight during the Bruins’ victory in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final had to be as different an experience for his teammates as it was for outside observers.
Horton was shown waving on the Jumbotron during the first television timeout of the Bruins’ 5-2 win.His patented grin was highly visible, but so were some tears in his big, brown eyes.
The TD Garden crowd erupted and everyone on the Bruins’ bench clapped or tapped his stick against the boards. Before you knew it, the Bruins had a 4-0 lead and had chased Vancouver netminder Roberto Luongo from the game.
“It reminded us that there’s a guy who would love to be on the bench with us or on the ice. And we tried to play for him too,” said Horton’s usual linemate David Krejci.
Horton continues to recover from the concussion he suffered as the result of a late hit by Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome in the first period of Game 3. Horton was feeling well enough to attend the game, even if he won’t be able to play in Wednesday’s dramatic Game 7.
“Yeah, we didn’t know that they were going to be doing that and showing him up there,” said Bruins forward Brad Marchand, who opened the scoring 5:31 in. “You know for him to come in and give us that boost of energy is unbelievable. And obviously the crowd loves it and loves him and are supporting him every minute of the day. It was great to see him out there. He gave us a big energy boost.”

Horton looked to be in pretty good shape. If he had bad symptoms, crowd noise like that would have been uncomfortable. I’m hoping this is a good sign that he’ll recover from this injury quickly enough.
I think a speech from Recchi saying it is his last NHL game and wants to leave with a ring, would get the juices flowing…
Roll our lines, matchups be damned! Make them adjust to us!
Lets see if Julien can motivate this team (ala Belichick) before game 7. Vancouver has given them plenty of sound bites and video clips to fill a motivational video for the ages. I don’t want to hear any ‘if you can’t get pumped for this game blah blah blah.’ The differences of emotion in home vs. away games debunks that garbage. Pull out all of the stops. Take it to them and then take it from them.
I hope he is well enough to go to game 7.
rest up, ho ho. peverley hills ninja is just keeping your seat warm on the khl line.
Honestly he appears to be recovering well-I wonder what his concussion history has been up to this hit.
Granted with concussions there can be 5 steps forward and 3 steps back-one only need to look at Crosby to figure that one out.
Hopefully he recovers quickly and will continue to provide some inspiration to his team.
Loved seeing him, that smile. Loved hearing the crowd respond, and again cheer his name as the game went on.
If he is showing up in the locker room and at games, my guess is he won’t miss much of a beat
Horton deserves to be on the ice. The cheap shot play of vanloser will come back to haunt them. I hope his injury heals 100% this off season. They sure could use him on the ice.
Fun article. You forgot one, though; the 1919 Stanley Cup Finals between the Montreal Canadiens and the Seattle Metropolitans. Game 4 was a 0-0 tie. After 5 games, they were tied 2 games apiece. Then, a Spanish Flu outbreak caused the series to be cancelled, and the cup was not awarded to either team.
