BOSTON — Everyone knew that Tyler Seguin’s shot in power-play practice May 16 had an impact on Bruins forward Milan Lucic’s right foot.
We just didn’t know how extreme that effect was.
Today during the Bruins’ break-up day at TD Garden, Lucic revealed that he played the rest of the Eastern Conference Final and then the Stanley Cup Final with a broken big toe.
“I’m sure you guys saw me limping around a little bit, but definitely it was tough to play through, but thank God for freezing and Novocain to make it feel good, and you know, it’s all healed up now, so it’s all good,” said Lucic.
A sinus infection that made him feel like he “had a cloud in my head” hampered Lucic’s first-round series with Montreal, when he recorded just two assists in seven games. Somehow he managed to fight through and finish the postseason with 5-7-12 totals without missing any of the team’s 25 games.
“I was letting the pressure of the expectations get to me. … I was forgetting all the things I did that led to me scoring 30 goals [during the regular season],” he explained about how he turned it up — he recorded seven points, including four goals, in the final two rounds — as the playoffs wore on.
Lucic is headed for offseason surgery to correct a problem with his sinuses. But his toe will just need some more rest. That the Bruins won the Stanley Cup is proof it was worth it for Lucic to ply his trade even when ailing.

Tough Western Canadian kid. Built for the long grind of the playoffs. I remember him well from the Vancouver Giants
A bad sinus cold can be worse than a broken toe. I really know how he feels with that. It makes a lot of sense in retrospect, as most things do.
The media in Montreal figured he was injured. In his young career, he’s been a hab eater. For him to have a series like he did against us, he had to be injured.
I’m glad to hear that Looch’s game was affected, he sure looked like he was struggling out there at times. Saw a lot of big circle turns when the play went the other way instead of hard stops to stay in the play.

Huh. Was not expecting a sinus infection.
Everyone knows that Lucic is not a guy who goes own easy. Something you’ve been dreaming about since you’re a kid, you do what it takes to make things happen. Congrats Bruins!
Finally the truth is revealed. Saw this one coming.
