Habs’ Pacioretty holds grudge against Chara even after apology
We knew that the decision by the NHL that Zdeno Chara’s March 8 hit on Max Pacioretty was a “hockey play” gone wrong didn’t defuse the Montreal forward’s bitterness toward the Bruins defenseman or the league.
Obviously an apologetic phone call and the passing of time haven’t quelled Pacioretty’s disgust in the months since the hit either.
Pacioretty just re-signed with Montreal as a free agent. In a story about his contract and other Canadiens deals, Pacioretty expressed his bitterness to the Montreal Gazette’s Pat Hickey.
Hickey writes:
The 22-year-old Pacioretty said he was still frustrated that Chara wasn’t suspended for the hit, adding he hopes the NHL will adopt a more consistent policy of policing head shots. He said he turned the TV off after the end of Game 7 in the Stanley Cup final because he didn’t want to see Chara accept the trophy.
At the risk of opening this can of worms again, Chara’s hit on Pacioretty was not a head shot. Pacioretty’s head unfortunately hit the stanchion when he was hit with immense force by the biggest player in the NHL. It was a late hit, penalized by interference. But to compare the hit to the one Aaron Rome threw at Nathan Horton or Mike Richards through at David Booth is mixing apples and oranges.
Nonetheless, I can understand not watching the Cup presentation based on the fact that no player wants to watch another team win. But to still be angry with Chara after the Bruins captain made contact with him via phone to apologize and wish him shows that Pacioretty really needs to turn the page.
As for the injuries he suffered as a result of the hit, Pacioretty is basically 100 percent healthy now. He told Hickey:
“My injury hasn’t limited me in the weight room and I started training earlier than I normally do because of the rehab. If I had come back in the playoffs, the injury might have been in the back of my mind, but now with the time off, it won’t be a problem. I know the kind of game I have to play. I want to be that guy who goes to the net to score goals.”

@RD, I never said it was acceptable, hence, I understand your offense. It’s just not racism. Ignorance and name calling perhaps, but not racism
RD, you still here? I thought we werent worth your time so you did the french thing and retreated.
I see how this works now. Its not the guys that start the crap storm that are flamers, its the guy who ends it. Very interesting perspective.
Please answer this question. If this is a Bruins board (and it is) and you and the frenchy in question hate the Bruins (which you do) what reason do you have to be here other than to flame? Ill be waiting for your answer.
@RD
Erik Cole was in a hard plastic and metal brace for 2 months.
What I’m thinking happened is something like this. Pax got an MRI quickly, there was definitely significant imflamation at that time making imaging difficult to interpret, so a radiologist may have put in the report “possible nondisplaced fracture at C-4″.
Yes I’m sticking to my claim. A nondisplaced fracture can quickly become a displaced fracture if someone were to have a second injury. Something as minor as whiplash from stopping abruptly in a car for example, or a fall, so yes traction would most likely be involved. Now if the MRI showed “remote possibility of nondisplaced fracture” that person may be on VERY STRICT bedrest orders, and definitely wouldn’t be ice skating/driving within a week or two.
@John, if calling someone a frog is unacceptable, why would frenchy pass?
@Shawn…you flamed this place up worse than JPT. Why can’t you see that? Just because this is a Bruins board, it does not mean that comments are reserved for anyone. You should re-read the posts that you wrote and compare them to the posts of other people on this board. You come up severely lacking.
@Neeley…I’m going to have to call shenanigans on your claim. If the neck is not misaligned, are you sticking to your claim that patients would invariably be in traction for 3 months? On the internet, everybody is 6’5 with muscles with a background in UFC, an ex-marine and conveniently become experts on any subject that is convenient. All I’m saying is that if you actually do work in the medical profession, you’d know that injuries and recoveries vary. Erik Cole had a similar injury and wasn’t in traction for 3 months. Why would a lay person know this but not you?
NeelyforPres, you couldnt be more correct. Montreal was crying wolf (AGAIN) and the league finally called them on it. In my opinion, the organization should be fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. You didnt see anything near that type of behavior from the Bruins organization after the Cooke hit on Savard.
Sorry RD, I get your argument and offense, but “Frenchy” isn’t racist. Being French, or French Canadian isn’t a particular race.
David, I appreciate your comment. The way I see it, respect should be earned, not given as a courtesy to people (JPT for example) who come here with the intention of inciting hostility and provoking a confrontation. As Strother Martin said in Cool Hand Luke, “Which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.” JPT and RD really cant act innocent and surprised after throwing a match into a puddle of gasoline. (Funny that their favorite team also does this on a regular basis and, unfortunately, gets away with it most of the time.) I pleaded with posters to ignore these guys while the playoffs were going on, but the season is over now and there is no reason for them to be here other than to flame.
Nonetheless, thanks for the suggestion.
@RD and George,
I’m an orthopedic RN and have cared for probably close to a hundred non-displaced cervical vertebrae fracture patients, I also discussed this situation with our spine surgeon when it happened and we all laughed at montreals gross exaggeration of the injury, which was clearly a ploy to get chara suspended. I really could care less if you believe me, but I do know what I’m talking about. And just a message to the popular hab posters on this blog, you guys continually give Habs fans a worse rep than they already have, you should just stop with the back and forth childish nonsense, it’s makes u and your team seem desperate and pathetic.
Shawn,
I’m a Bruins fan and your tone was offensive to me as well. They had every right to call you on that, and it is on Matt’s blog guidelines, which I suggest you read before further posts. If Montreal fans want to come here and discuss things let them. We can and should be civil about it. Matt does us a great service by allowing that to happen without the insults that routinely fly between insulted fans. I’d urge you to try and be more considerate with your comments in the future.
JPT is usually just a troll, but he was right on calling you out.
RD, this is a Boston Bruins board. We dont cater to Montreal fans here. If you dont like the reception you receive after flaming then why do you keep coming back to a message board of a team you hate. A team that just made you their b*tch in the first round of the playoffs. Definitely some psychological issues in play there.
Now run along before you get the same treatment that little Maxi-pad Pacioretty got from Big Z.
Shawn, you’re a coward. You are using profanity but you are hiding it with l33t or ascii, or whatever you want to call it.
Even if you want to hide behind these technicalities (which is pretty weak), your message is still profane and racist. (Frenchy isn’t appreciated either).
I’m not going to pretend … I spend way too much arguing on this board. But even for an addict like me, you are a complete waste of my time.
Grow up some.
Hey RD, why dont you bl*w me.
There are no racial slurs or objectionable language in that post. Furthermore, that piece of crap Tremblay should have been tossed off this board a long time ago for flaming.
Shawn, Matt erased your first comment. Now you repost it almost verbatim. Are you insulting Matt’s judgment and rules of conduct too?
Anyways, why don’t you let the grownups act like kids and go back to your call of duty or whatever else you do with your time.
Jean Philippe, what a typical little sissy frenchy you are. Agitate and provoke until someone gives you what you deserve, then go crying to your mommy. Now wonder the rest of Canada despises you. Maxie Pad Pacioretty will be tossing Chara’s salad again next season. Bank on it.
Oh by the way, how’s our @$$ taste?
