Bruins’ Chara can’t top Lidstrom in Norris Trophy voting

As far as historic NHL awards, Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara is just going to have to be satisfied with the Stanley Cup.

And I’m sure the Boston captain is quite content.

Voters from the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association voted Detroit blueliner Nicklas Lidstrom as winner of the Norris Trophy as best defenseman, it was announced during tonight’s NHL Awards show in Las Vegas.

Lidstrom has now won the Norris seven times.

Chara, who finished third behind Lidstrom and Nashville’s Shea Weber, won the Norris in 2009 and has now been nominated three times.

Later in the night, Chara, who finished 13th in the Hart (MVP) voting, won the Mark Messier Leadership Award (which is picked by Messier) and then he was named as Second Team All-Star.
