The league this afternoon released the official order of selection for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, which will be held Friday and Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
The Bruins have six picks total, starting with the No. 9 overall pick in Friday’s first round.
The second through seventh rounds will be held on Saturday, with the Bruins scheduled to pick once in each round except the seventh. They don’t have their own second- or third-round picks but own Minnesota’s and Phoenix’s in the second and third rounds, respectively.
So the Bruins are set to pick at nine, 40, 81, 121, 151 and 181.

I hope NJ takes Beaulieu. That would mean one of the following would have to be available: Murphy, Couturier, Hamilton, Strome, Ryan N-H, Huberdeau, Landeskog, Larsson. (Which means probably Murphy, Couturier, Hamilton, Strome.) Any of whom would be great at 9, perhaps with Strome being the question mark to me.
Can’t wait to see how it falls.
I’m with you Nifty. I like Beaulieu as well. Great upbringing with his dad being part of the London Knights organization, so he’s been around the game his whole life and knows what it takes to play at any level. He trains with Sam Gagner and John Karlson in the offseasons. They compare him to Drew Doughty which isn’t too shabby either. He just won a Mem’ Cup too so the winner aspect is there as well. I love that intangible, especially with other winners like Lucic, Bergy and Marchand and what they’ve brought to the table.
In the end though, I don’t feel Chia likes to take d-men with early picks. I also think NJ may snipe him earlier so I’m leaning toward taking a guy like Sven Baertschi: http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospectdetail.htm?dpid=9442&tab=vid
NHL hands and playmaking vision. He’s a LW who would look so good on Seguin’s wing one day. Led all WHL rookies with 85 pts in 65 games, finishing 7 pts behind teammate, and 2010 4th overall pick, Ryan Johansen.
Look for us to jump all over Ryan Murphy or Sean Couturier should they slide down and still be available as well.
I still like Bealieu at the nine spot even if he’s ranked around eleven. It will be interesting to see who is available at that spot. Just don’t pick someone ranked twentieth and pretend you’re smarter than everyone else. See Zach Hamill.
Matt K.,
Here’s an assessment of ISS Final Top 30 rankings and actual drafts from ’07-’10. I take no credit for the work done to complete the tables.
It does, however, bear out your post regarding PC’s feelings about player availability at #9.
I hope you and your readers enjoy it.

Why does round 2 have 31 picks?
I believe the B’s were to get the Panther’s 7th rounder as a conditional pick..I guess the “condition criteria” , whatever it was, wasn’t met.
Thanks Matt K!
David-
A trade for their 7th rounder last year.

How did Chi get our 7th round pick?
