David – 3-4 years ago, I’m all over a run to get Gagne. Today, I wonder about his makeup and for what he’ll ask, I see ‘buyer beware’ typed in small print.
Then again – it might be worth it simply to make sure he’s not potting goals against us in the playoffs.
MCK – I agree. Kaberle, to me is a no brainer. For the love of God, we all just watched him for months – what makes anyone think it will become a better fit with a full training camp?! I’d just as soon try someone else.
As for Ryder. I think I like him more than most – but that’s not saying much. Again – we know what he brings, and honestly the most attractive thing about him is his little bit of cohesion with Seguin. If its for one year… ok. But I’m a much bigger fan of the following.
Sign Cole and put him with Krecji and Horton. Slide Looch to the Bergeron line with Marchand and I think you’ve then got an absolute monster line for ANY team to contend with.
I think they only resign Ryder and Kaberle if the price is right. I don’t think they are going to hand Ryder anything close to his current cap hit and it is possible Ryder may find greener fields elsewhere although a part of me thinks he might take the hometown discount to stay with Julien.
JPT, I’m never right with predictions but I have to guess the Bruins will look very similar to last years team as well. I think they resign Ryder and Kaberle, then let the young players battle for Recchi’s spot. For some reason I see a team looking to reach the salary floor making a push for Wiz with an overpayment.
George, if it was up to me, I would take a pass on Jagr. I would rather the team build with youth. People are hoping Laich from Washington is a target of Gauthier but I think we would have to over pay for him. I am guessing we will have pretty well the same team as last year. I am hoping the Bruins stay away from Wizneiwski.
I gave it a B. The later round guys are in leagues that are hard to judge comparitively. I like the fact they used those picks on players that will have somewhere to play in two years. Not a big risk and it’s worth the gamble on guys that have Ivy league discipline. The only thing that kept me out of Cornell was high school.
I got to admit, I wasn’t happy the Bruins got Hamilton because he is a good player and he is big. But I would have been more pissed if they had gotten Sean Couturier. To have a big center man from Quebec come back and haunt the Habs for years playing with the Bruins would have been hard to take. You guys owe Brian Burke a big Thank you.
Ask me about the 2011 draft in 2014.
JPT, a lot of Jagr talk out there with the Habs….any thoughts? Or is there another FA out there Habs fans are wishing for?
JPT – I’m anxious to see what Subban and Beaulieau can pull off in the same lineup with Markov. Interesting back line if the old dog can stay healthy. Big If on big money though.
I was really hoping that the Bruins would draft local kid Colin Blackwell from St. John’s Prep in round 6 or 7 but the San Jose Sharks grabbed him with their 7th round pick. Oh well….I’ll enjoy watching play for Teddy Donato at Harvard this fall.
I give it an A mostly because I think Hamilton was an absolute surprise for where we were picking and I think he will contribute a lot down the road and after a little more seasoning.
The other picks seem like they may be good gambles who can pay off down the road as well-especially mixed in with some of the other prospects.
I think the draft is mostly one giant gamble anyway. Other than maybe a cluster of truly sound picks at the top, I think for the most part it is a huge gamble on whether any of those drafted produce as expected. Dan Paille is an example-given where he went in the draft he was a bust and didn’t live up to expectations, but he found a niche, produces for a reasonable cap hit, and just won the cup.
I am content with who they picked and only time will tell if this was indeed a good draft or a bust or somewhere in between.

Forgot about Leino (instead of Cole) – that would be a double whammy – and might even help one of the PP lines….
We might as well take a run at Gagne if we want to go for Cole, Gange can be a full-time top liner.

JPT, it must really suck for you to watch Bergeron then.
Signing Kaberle and Ryder is a mistake.

Hahaha, even before I saw the comments I was going to post one accusing you, JPT. Glad to see you did not disappoint.
Just so you are not guessing, I am the one who gave Cheerioselli an F for his work yesterday and today.
