Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said today during his conference call to announce the signing of Joe Corvo that Tuukka Rask and Milan Lucic recently underwent successful surgeries.
Rask underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his meniscus while Lucic had a cartilage issue cleared up in his nose.
The GM also said that he’s been touching base with Marc Savard once a month. He’s still a couple weeks away from his next session with the concussed center and Chiarelli did not offer any type of update on Savard’s condition.

no one retires with over 20 mill owed on a deal unless they have to. the nature of concusions is they do sometimes heal. if savard stays on the ltir he has absolutely no reason to retire. the only possible reason he might want to retire is if he passes a physical but is afraid to return to the ice. no guy with concusion problems has ever walked away from a contract like this ever. i mean you have to search far and wide to get any examples at all of guys retiring from any signed contracts. a guy like ralfalski was going to likely pass his physical and be forced to hobble around the ice in pain. different story for him. a guy like lemieux had cancer concerns… but still came back. a guy like roberts had a broken neck but still came back. even our own neely had no hip left but still tried to come back. lindros dragged it out for years at the end of his career. primeau didnt retire till he got all his money. there just is no examples anywhere of where a guy retires with a concusion issue while still having millions owed to him cause sometimes concusions get better and if you pass your medical after you retire… suddenly the insurance company might decide there is no medical reason to be retired anymore and stop paying on your claim
Exactly, such a little putz. If he wants to return, go ahead. If he can’t, so what. You don’t have to attack his character. You only have a chance to play in the NHL once. If he quits, chances are that he is not coming back.
Karl, you have been passionately arguing at every opportunity that Savard would be returning, as if you are his personal doctor and have inside knowledge. Now, suddenly, he’s just going to drag out his retirement. Make up your mind.
knowing savvy, he will drag this one out for awhile.
I strongly suspect Savard is going to retire before the start of next season or at some point during the season.
Sad for hockey, but I just don’t see him returning.
Hopefully Rask and Lucic will have quick recoveries.
