Injury-free first day of Bruins development camp … barely
WILMINGTON, Mass. — The Bruins’ prospects opened the fifth-annual development camp at Ristuccia Arena today.
For the most part, the hour-long on-ice session went off without a hitch.
The only scare came late in the drills, when forward Jared Knight crashed into goaltender Michael Hutchinson. The netminder was down for a couple minutes before he skated off under his own power along with the trainer.
“If it was up to me, I would’ve went right back out for the rest of the skate,” said Hutchinson after practice. “But the training staff thought it’d be best if I just went off.”
Hutchinson said he saw Knight coming and braced himself for the hit, but there’s not much you can do when 5-foot-11, 202 pounds is coming at you almost at full speed. The Bruins completed the day with just two goaltenders.
Before hitting the ice, the Bruins’ prospects went through their off-ice testing.

I’m not giving up on Hutch yet. He’s a good kid that has to work on keeping his confidence like most tenders.
He’s probably already tied McNab’s career total for going hard into the goaltender.
What’s it say about Knight that he’s playing this hard during Development Camp?
Ever since they picked this kid, I’ve had a really good feeling. Call me crazy, but I’m hoping for a smaller version of Peter McNab – Anyone old enough…
Hard to believe development camp has kicked off already. I’m so used to that long lull after a disappointing and premature end to the big club’s season. I could get used to this…it’s great that the Bruins have stayed in the sports conversation straight through.
