“Dunnville Mudcats”…awesome! Does anyone know of a compendium of great minor league sports franchise names? On-line or otherwise? If not someone should really get on that..not me though…I have to work.
If anybody ever watch or played against the Dunnville Mudcats of the old OHA senior league they’d realize why Nathan is tough. That area produced some teams that would make Philly blush.
With some common sense it could have been put on the Jet Blue flight. Ft.Erie customs did their best to expediate the process but no exceptions at Logan apparently.
As dumb as those people are, it appears as if it was the fault of the person in charge of getting it to the airport.
Horton at the park in Dunnville. No Cup. Thanks Logan Airport for the four hour delay. Idiots.
I’m also a little surprised that Knight was not on this list. What we have is two spots for players who can score to some extent, and one spot where the player has to have some defensive merit. Seguin is incumbent in the former hole where Caron and Knight look like our best options for the latter. I say we need 2 scoring players because our team needs 3 lines scoring in order to win in the postseason (as we saw) because our top line, while good, is not truly reliable scoring. That means that our 3rd line needs two players who can score at least, preferably who can check as well. If Pouloit uses his size, he can edge out Caron for it, but Caron will make him work for it. Arniel will be up next year in the spot currently occupied by Kelly. He looks to be the same type of player, but cheaper. Having the equivalent of 2 kelleys on the 3rd line in terms of scoring will not be great for our team.
Frank you are correct, I didn’t consider Seguin’s increased time. I agree with bruins16 though, Pouliot isn’t a sure thing to get the start over Caron.
Frank
I don’t think Pouliot is a slam dunk to make the first twelve forwards. He is not that big of an investment and doesn’t play that well in his own end. If Caron has a good camp, he will get the nod over Pouliot. I agree with you there is not much space and we need to remember that these guys won the Stanley Cup, so there won’t be a strong push for much change.
Jim: you’re forgetting that Seguin & Thornton split time as healthy scratches during the playoffs so there was already an extra forward. & with the addition of Pouliot, that makes it 12 forwards (by assuming Savard is out)
so there’s room for ZERO.
& TCL: I agree with your point on the injuries but the question on this blog is for the ‘opening-night roster’. In fact, if the question would be if any of those players would play NHL games this year, I would answer you all 5!
With Ryder and Recchi both gone there will be room for two forwards. Caron prefers to play the off wing so I suspect he’ll get first crack at Recchi’s right wing slot.
Frank-what are the chances that there won’t be any injuries?
The reality is that there are usually some injuries-so even if they make the roster as a 13th forward or 7th D-they are likely going to be playing some games.
I sometimes wonder if they may not try to carry to extra D-men on the books, if the cap can handle it.
If there are no injuries, I bet that none of the players listed will make the opening night roster (a couple will make the team but as the 13th forward & 7th D). We probably all want Pouliot to be pushed out by a kid but knowing Julien’s philosophy: forget it!
Kampfer was on roster until injury. He has earned it. Caron is talented but needs time
no trent whitfield vote button?
I actually think Caron or Arniel will make the roster out of camp, but I also wonder if they won’t give Knight a try out before sending him back to juniors. I don’t think Knight or Spooner make the roster and finish the season but I could be wrong.
I think Kampfer is probably the prospect who is most likely to be on the roster out of camp. Unless somebody really knocks the pants off the coaching staff I just don’t think there are any other defensemen in the system ready for the big B’s. Although some of the other guys may surprise me.
None of those. I bet spooner or knight gets a taste before going back to juniors. Can’t believe they weren’t on the list, also Cohen, Bartkowski, Cunningham??? You have Khudobin on the list who has 1 chance and that’s if one of our goalies is hurt/traded.
