As his day with the Stanley Cup draws near, Marc Savard’s chances of continuing his career beyond this season aren’t looking any better.
The Boston Globe today reported that general manager Peter Chiarelli said Savard is still “complaining of headaches” stemming from his post-concussion syndrome, which was triggered by a Matt Hunwick hit in January.
If Savard doesn’t show improvement soon, according to the Globe, he will not be able to participate in the team’s training camp in September.
Savard will have the Stanley Cup Monday. There has been no decision yet on whether he gets to have his name etched on the Cup despite having played in just 25 games last season.

Not to mention that was Bergy’s first concussion. How many has Savvy had now? Time to call it a career, Marc. Your life and family are too important.
Such a shame that this happened to him…
You’re making an awful mistake Greg by comparing the recovery chances of a Bergy who was 22yo then to Savvy who’s now 34…
Karl,
If Saavy can play should we just ignore the fact he is signed to a contract? Greg makes a great point. I’m just hoping Savvy get healthy and gets back to life, with or without the Bruins.
karl, so the Bs should have let Bergerron hang em up? He makes more, had the same concussion, took a year to come back. I dont wanty any revisionist history here. When he was hit in that Pens game he was the #1 center, # 1 pp qb.
Bergerron was a shell of himself for an entire year. I want Savard back, healthy.
James, can I safely say you started watching this team this year? Any and every team can use a player the likes of a healthy Savard at only a 4 million cap hit. Point per game player and a PP QB. I want him back. But only healthy. Get well Marc.
$4m is lot of papa gino’s for a 3rd line center / pp#2 qb.
We’ve been over this already, He was just getting back in form at the end of the 25gms when tragedy struck. Again. If he is able to come back and get back into shape he could be an asset to the team, though probably not as a top line center again if we look at this solely from a business standpoint. Steve M took the words out of my mouth otherwise.
the PP wasn’t better in the 25 games he played…
Tell that to the power play
Time to hang ‘em up. No offense, but Bruins better off without him anyway. Just business.
i’d like to see rome’s name on the cup too for rallying the b’s.
savvy will string this out to the very end.
I can’t understand why it takes so long to make the decision about getting his name on the Cup. He should have his name on it and he should know of the decision before his day with the Cup.
I think the league will okay his name on the cup. I think the real question is what happens next for him. I suspect his career is over and we are unlikely to ever see him play another NHL game.
Sad. I hope he gets his name on the cup, because it’s looking like he’s never going to get the chance to play for one again. I just hope he is able to return to living a normal life.
