Father, son enjoy Stanley Cup on Bruins’ Campbell’s day
As Colin Campbell puts it, his son Gregory Campbell has taken a lot of “crap” over the years while playing in the NHL with his father serving as the NHL discipline czar.
Serious accusations have been whispered about the league favoring the son and his teams, and the dynamic has been the source of plenty of trash talk on the ice over the years.
It’s enough to make you wonder sometimes why the Bruins center ever wanted to follow his fathers footsteps into the NHL. Yesterday was another one of those days that validated the veteran’s decision to be a hockey player.
A little more than a month after the Bruins defeated Vancouver in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, Campbell spent his day with the Cup in and around Kitchener, Ontario, as reported by Kevin McGran of The Star. His father and a lot more family were on hand for portions of Campbell’s celebration.
The Cup continues its tour of Ontario into the early part of next week.

Yeah George is like that kid who cheats on his exams and when it comes to the real world he will fall. Hence why the American Government is so effed. George is a typical Boston fan, will do whatever it takes to win a title even if that means cheating.
How Colin Campbell still has a job is beyond me. The executive of this league are inept to say the least.
JTP, I will take a Cup win with controversy over a 1st round exit being up 2-0 in the series (with games 3&4 at home btw).
You got us JPT. We never would have made it if we lost a few more games during the season. And Campbell was totally the one making all the rulings.
And that is why the Bruins cup win this year is tarnished. It was very obvious to everyone that the Bruins got preferential treatment this year that lead to their cup win.
Fortunately Shannahan is now in charge of that, and I suspect he will do a good job.
Greg’s a player and can only be blamed for what he does on the ice. He just won the cup so he’s doing something right. His dad on the other hand is a piece of work. The emails that surfaced showed blatant tampering in his son’s games and Colin should not have held his job as long as he did. Hell, Cook might have actually been suspended then…and maybe some other cases would have been handled better also.
“but I think the tinfoil hat, conspiracy stuff is just sore loserism dressed up in conspiracy theories.”
If it weren’t for the emails that were sent to former NHL official Dean Warren I might agree with that statement above but I cannot because there is no hiding from what was in those emails nor the non-ruling on Cooke.
Aside from that I hope Greg had a great day!
A bag of pucks and $1.50 for Wideman would be a heist.
I should have went over this morning to see Stanley and Gregory. It’s thirty minutes from my door. A prior engagement screwed that. I did get to skate around it in 2002 when Jason Williams had it at a rink in London. Got some great pics and my son was on the front page of the sports section. My brother had to one up me when he went to Corey Perry’s private party four years ago.
ho ho & soup for wideman was a heist.
I realize Colin Campbell has taken a lot of heat over the years (some from Bruins fans) and much of it deserved, but I have always felt kind of bad for Gregory Campbell because all he wanted to do was play hockey but so many Colin haters would drag him into it.
I think Colin made some pretty bad decisions or at least inconsistent ones in his position, but I think the tinfoil hat, conspiracy stuff is just sore loserism dressed up in conspiracy theories.
I for one am glad the Bruins got Campbell-not because of who his dad is, but because I think he brought a spark that ignited the 4th line in a way it hadn’t been before. I don’t think it was an accident that Thornton had one of his best years ever.
