Earlier this week, I blogged out the stiff competition Bruins 2011 first-round draft pick Dougie Hamilton faced this week in the defense corps at Team Canada’s World Junior Championship team evaluation camp.
Well, it turns out there’s even more to the story of Hamilton’s attempt to make the squad.
According to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, should Hamilton and his brother Freddie, a 2010 fifth-round pick of San Jose, make the Team Canada squad, they would become just the second pair of brothers ever to make Team Canada’s WJC entry together.
Matheson quotes Dougie Hamilton:
“We play together in Niagara, which is special, but to play for Canada, wearing that sweater … I don’t know if anything could compare to that.”
It’s interesting to read how the Hamilton brothers picked different positions and the effect their upbringing had on them. So Dougie Hamilton has a chance to make history even before he becomes a regular with the Bruins, which should be still a few years down the road.
