After today, Michael Ryder’s ties to the Bruins and their 2010-11 Stanley Cup championship team will officially be through.
Ryder, who signed with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent in July, had his day with the Cup today in his hometown of Bonavista, Newfoundland. However, things didn’t start out as planned.
Unlike Nathan Horton’s day, which started with a late-arriving Cup, Ryder’s day started with a Cup injury. As you can see in this video, courtesy of The Telegram, the Cup took a little fall.
Ryder’s solid postseason performance last spring wiped out most memories of his ugly regular seasons from the prior two years. However, that his last act as a Bruin is to have the Cup drop and suffer a dent is somewhat fitting relative to his $4 million per year career with Boston.

@PatrickD I didn’t see him at Parade Square, just at St. Margaret’s Arena. I only saw a couple Montreal jerseys there but Bobby Mac pointed them out and got everyone there to boo them haha! As for the whole Moosehead fiasco, well I think you summed that up pretty good with the management. They wanted a hometown boy on the team to bring in more fans and they didn’t care if he was a good fit for the team or not. Obviously it didn’t work out then, but Brad certainly went on to bigger and better things
I was going to comment on the title, but you have fixed it, so I’ll just complain about the formatting change: it is not better.
One word hilarious!!
Patrick D,
Just remember, Montreal is rated as the worst fans in hockey and the 9th worst on the entire continent (excluding soccer).
@JPR…did you see Marchand at the Parade Square? Did you notice people in the crowd giving him the finger and booing? Some were Habs fans but most of them were people still holding a grudge from the Mooseheads fiasco. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some people can be. The team gave up 3 or 4 years of picks for him and he was a bust…that’s managements fault not Brad’s. The Habs fans acting like that doesn’t surprise me at all but the rest of them should be ashamed of themselves. Some of them were right at the front too. So they got up early and waited 3 hours in the hot sun to boo the kid? Marchy was so cool though. He just completely ignored them from what I could see.
Yeah this definitely happened in St. John’s before he left to go home to Bonavista. He might be gone from the Bruins now, but I for one will be thankful for his part in the playoffs and helping us win the Cup. And being a fellow Newfoundlander, I’m always happy to see the Cup make an official trip to the Rock
I had to “settle” for seeing it the day before in Halifax with Brad Marchand instead thou
Seeing the Cup in the hands of a Bruin in person was such a great feeling! I could get used to it for sure
hahah of course this happened to Ryder…
I’m pretty sure that he isn’t in Bonavista in that video. He might have taken the cup to Bonavista but the tumble took place in St. John’s. You can see multi story buildings in the background…you’d be lucky to find a two story house in Bonavista.
Of all the players on that team – Gotta wonder what the vegas odds were that Ryder would play the doofus. Love him.. I’m a bit of a doofus myself… but they might have been as low as even 1:1
He just HAAAD to leave his own kind of mark!
