As a four-year star at Boston University, where he won an NCAA title, and a Burlington, Mass., native, Jay Pandolfo has always been popular in Boston hockey circles even though he spent his entire NHL career with New Jersey.
Now the local boy could potentially be coming home.
A report at ESPNBoston.com says that general manager Peter Chiarelli has discussed a potential tryout invitation for Pandolfo. Chiarelli told that site that he has issued an invitation to one player and spoken to three others about possibly attending camp.
The 36-year-old Pandolfo skated in just 12 games last season with Springfield of the AHL. The previous year he appeared in just 52 games for New Jersey.

It dosen’t hurt to try him out. You might never know what he might bring to the ice
I say go for it !
Good call. I like this potential move. He was a stud with Madden and Rolston on NJ’s special teams during their Cup seasons. He could play that veteran role and PKer for next to nothing.
Hnidy is checking a radio mic. I have my doubts he’ll make it. He’s hardly played the last two years. I like the guy but he’s not early thirties.
Why? I’d just bring back Hnidy as a bench D and veteran presence
This is a good move. Give the guy a try-out and if he still has anything in the tank he signs for next to nothing. He is another veteran voice in the room and local boy. I don’t see any downside to this at all.
