Report: Spooner teammate Stokes to play at Bruins’ rookie camp

When he arrives in the Boston area for Bruins rookie camp later this week, center Ryan Spooner will be bringing a friend along.

And maybe this colleague will be able to also help the Bruins down the road.

According to the Web site of Spooner’s OHL junior team the Kingston Frontenacs, Spooner’s teammate Conor Stokes has been invited to participate in Bruins’ rookie camp. The Bruins have not yet released an official roster for the camp, which starts with testing and physicals Friday.

“A pro camp has been a long time coming for me. I’m just going to see if I can turn some heads and get more attention,” Stokes told the Frontenacs Web site.

Stokes, a 6-foot-1 left winger, projects to play his fourth year in the OHL this season as a 20-year-old. Never drafted by an NHL team, he’ll try to earn his way into Bruins main camp during rookie camp as a free agent. Last season in 64 games, he posted 7-22-29 totals and a minus-13 rating.
