The Bruins officially announced today that they re-signed a restricted free agent who played his junior hockey in Halifax and was drafted in 2006.
Sorry, folks, it wasn’t Brad Marchand.
Boston re-signed Marchand’s former junior teammate and longtime buddy Andrew Bodnarchuk. According to the team release, which confirmed several reports from yesterday, the deal is for one year.
Bodnarchuk has five games of NHL experience — from 2009-10 — and spent all of last year with the Providence (AHL) farm club. In 2010-11, he posted 1-15-16 totals in 75 games for the P-Bruins.
He has seemingly been passed on the organizational depth chart by several blueliners, but could challenge for the seventh defenseman job or at least put himself in line for an in-season call-up.
Marchand remains unsigned.
