Emptying out the notebook after State of the Bruins

BOSTON — Here are some quick-hit notes from tonight’s State of the Bruins town hall at TD Garden:

•Goaltender Tim Thomas said his offseason workouts went well, especially compared to last season when he was rehabilitation his surgically-repaired hip. He was able to work on every part of his body instead of from his waist to his knee.

•There will be an open competition to wear Mark Recchi’s alternate captains’ ‘A,’ which head coach Claude Julien said would be voted on by the players.

•Thomas noted that he thinks it’s always important to have goals and now that he won the Stanley Cup, Vezina Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy last season he has “no choice but to shoot for it again.”

•General manager Peter Chiarelli maintained his vow of silence on the Brad Marchand front except to say that he like Marchand as a player and “we’re going to try our best to get him on the ice.”

•When asked about a front-office role for Recchi, President Cam Neely said that Recchi is taking some time off for now. But “we’ll revisit that if he knocks on our door.”

•The Stanley Cup championship banners from the previous five times Boston won the title will have a new look this season. The freshly made banners now feature the Bruins logo from the era of the team that won.

•Principal Charlie Jacobs said that he envisions the front of the Garden actually featuring a retail area through which fans could enter the Garden and North Station off of Causeway Street. That plan might take five to 10 years to complete.
