Lucic getting off on right foot for Bruins in camp

BOSTON — The big toe that was damaged by a Tyler Seguin practice shot last May is still a bit gruesome.

But more important for Milan Lucic, and the Bruins, it isn’t hampering the forward’s play as we head from the first few days of training camp into the Black and White scrimmage Tuesday and then the exhibition schedule.

“The X-ray is really messy actually. I know the doctors when they looked at it were laughing about it,” the Bruins’ leading goal-scorer from a year ago said today after practice. “But it actually started to happen a few weeks ago, where I started to get full mobility back into my toe. There’s no more pain when I get up on my toes and get going and all that sort of stuff. So that’s obviously a positive and hopefully it stays that way.”

Lucic admitted that overall this camp started out a bit slow for him, as most of his previous ones did as well.

“The first few practices, it felt like pivoting and all the edges were off and all that type of stuff,” he said. “But I think just getting used to the quick plays, the speed and getting back to that quick tempo is definitely the toughest part to get used to coming into camp. And that’s one thing that I’m definitely focusing on is getting that timing back and speed back and quickness.”
