BOSTON – For the first time since Game 3 of last June’s Stanley Cup Final, Bruins forward Nathan Horton is going to get into a game.
The veteran, whose season was ended by a concussion suffered in that pivotal contest, is scheduled to be in the lineup tonight when the Bruins battle Montreal in a preseason game in Halifax, N.S. Horton, who also played through all of last year’s playoffs with a separate shoulder, sat out Boston’s first two preseason games.
“It definitely feels good. It’s nice to have a chance to get back into practices and to work hard in there and feel great. So I don’t have any issues going into the game,” said Horton this morning after a practice at TD Garden.
Horton didn’t shy away from the notion that there might be some tentativeness on his part.
“Obviously, I’m only human, there’s going to be a little bit of that. But once I get back into the game, I’m’ sure I’ll be fine and I’ll just … I’m excited to finally be back and ready to play one,” he said.
Of course, with the Canadiens serving as tonight’s opponent, anything less than an overtime game-winning goal by Horton will be unacceptable after the dramatics he provided for Game 5 and 7 of last year’s first-round playoff series.
“Hopefully … maybe I’ll save it for the regular season,” he said with a giant grin.
Defenseman Joe Corvo and center Gregory Campbell are also scheduled to make their preseason debuts.
Here’s how the lines and D pairs looked in practice:
Marchand-Hamill-Pouliot
Caron-Seguin-Horton
Sauve-Campbell-Thornton
Paille-Whitfield-Clark
Chara-Corvo
Warsofsky-McQuaid
Kampfer-McKelvie
Rask
Khudobin
The rest of the remaining Bruins will mix with half this group in Monday night’s game in Montreal.
