Report: Bruins place Hamill, Whitfield on waivers
The Bruins took Tuesday off after winning back-to-back games against Montreal Sunday and Monday.
When they report to practice Wednesday, they might be short two centers off their current training camp roster.
According to Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca, the Bruins have placed centers Trent Whitfield and Zach Hamill on waivers with the intention of assigning both to the Providence (AHL) farm club. Providence opened its training camp today.
Whitfield was an unrestricted free agent who re-signed with Boston over the summer. He was one of the team’s “Black Aces” after a solid half year in Providence that included recovering from a severe knee injury he suffered the prior summer. Hamill is in his fourth year of his entry-level deal and has yet to meet his potential after he was selected eighth overall in 2007. He has played in just four NHL games over the last two seasons.

David,
I think it’s because he’s played 3 pro seasons since signing his original contract. He doesn’t meet the 180 NHL game requirement.
I’m not so sure a team would consider Hamill NHL-ready, or at least not one like Columbus who are looking to win now since he will be a project, although Winnepeg might since they’ll just be thrilled to have a hockey team.
Also, does anyone know why he has to pass waivers? He’s on a 2-way Entry-Level deal according to capgeek, so maybe this has something to do with the Bruins free contract year?
Don Guy, Columbus is looking for a 3rd line center and depth at the position, also.
The B’s sent Arniel, Cohen, Hutchinson, McKelvie and Warsofsky to the P-B’s today. Looks like Kampfer and Bartkowski will be playing to be the 7th D-man…with Clark, Pouliot, Caron and Sauve for the two forward spots the next few games.
That’s a good bet, MCK.
Amazing there are no takers for Hamill – the kid needs a new venue, BADLY!
I have a feeling Hamill winds up in Winnipeg.
My guess is Whitfield gets picked up and Hamill ends up in PVD
those 2 ESPECIALLY Whitfield needs to stay. whitfield showed last year in providence how good he can be scoring in like every game he played in.. well i hope he’ll be there when i go to see them oct 15 in springfield in prov’s road opener and falcons home opener and PLEASE bruce start khudobin that night i didnt get see him start at all least year.. if we start him deff will beat springfield
